Hi,
I've just become the proud owner of a16v MK1 Gti, I'm just after some tips and help with the car.
1st issue is the brakes, what's the best way to upgrade the brakes, I've got uprated pads on the front and standard shoes on the rear, also i need a single headlight grille for the same car.(i have a twin headlight grille that i don't need)
The car has a Ashley 4 branch and stainless exhaust on and i was wondering if you recommend a K+N induction kit for this car, I've been told by several people not to fit this item and told by others to fit one!!!.I don't know what to do for the best, i like the noise of the induction.
Any tips on insurance with the motor not being standard?.
Thanks Mike.

Firstly, welcome to the site. Not sure about the induction kit as I didn't think it was possible to put an induction kit on a mk1 but I stand to be corrected and as it's a 16v anyway then that might be different. :undecided: There is a company that specialises in brake upgrades, it's either C&R enterprises or TSR, can't remember. Put a thread in mk1 section and/or garage and someone will be able to answer. I think Richard Ellison has had his brakes upgraded with one of the above companies and he said that they certainly knew their stuff. As for a single grille, if you are after one of these look through the adverts in mags such as Golf+ and also have a look at the main page for this site www.golfgti.co.uk as there are a load of company links on the home page. Insurance, as Boggle says, check the deals and discounts, Brentacre in Wales don't seem to mind mods but they bang up the excess.

Welcome
For insurance try Adrian Flux. Tell them its a competitive situation, they will ask what you have been quoted but dont say. :lipsrsealed: That will save you a few quid.
