Title: cheap insurance for younger drivers ?
Post by: Amzy-Bear on 04 August 2011, 16:36
Hi,

Basically i lost my license last year because i got 2 SP30's in my first 2 years of driving and had it revoked.

Since then i have retaken it all and have had my license since march 11 and im looking to get insurance but obviously its going to be steep.

Ive had a quote for £2300 on a 1.6 16v golf and £2700 on a 2.0 GTI that was a 10month policy with elephant but you get NC bonus after.

Is there anywhere i could try to make this cheaper ?

Im 20 and thats with my parents as named drivers....

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

First, steer clear of the 10 month bonus accelerators. I had one with Admiral a couple of years ago, but other insurance companies (mainly ones that do not offer a 10 month accelerator) do not accept this as a NCB. You're better off paying for an extra couple of months and earning a full NCB.

As for cheaper insurance, try Admiral. You're just going to have to expect high prices as you are more of a liability with your record.

Yeah admiral where the best i could find.

I also found a mk4 was cheaper to insure than a mk3.

Yeah a turbo is still quicker than a valver

I was comparing a 1.6 mk3 vs a 1.6 mk4 when i first started driving and mk4 was cheaper. By at least a few hundred quid

just buy a 1.0 or 1.2 and get your no claims up getting a 1.6 or a 2.0 in your position they are always going to rape you.. common sense really !

Has gone up mate, they want near on 2.7K for me to insure your old MK3 (which has gone a long way BTW)

However £800 for a KA so your old Golf is getting a respray winter time!

Funnily enough just getting quotes and it's CHEAPER for me to take my dad off the policy as he had a non-fault accident three years ago. So I'm not gonna put him down as he can drive it under his insurance if he ever desires to.
