Title: Noisy injectors when idle
Post by: jpcutler85 on 03 August 2011, 21:13
I went to look at a car the other day and I have now seen a few. This one how ever when idle has a strange ticking noise. I have read about the cam belt tensioner on this forum but the Cam belt has recently be changed and the YouTube video someone had posted it sounds a bit too high pitched for the noise I am hearing. Also a family mechanic who I trust has looked over the engine bay and said it wasn't the cam belt tensioner. The owner didn't like the idea of him taking off the plastic cover though to have a further look.

They owner took it to the VW garage and they said its just the "high pressure" injectors when the car is idle. I am concerned as I haven't heard it on any other Golfs I have seen. They have accepted a good price for the car and everything else is top marks except this :(

The MK5 GTI Does have a ''diesel'' type sound on tick over, something to do with direct injection?

A diesel-esque idle is pretty common for the GTI. Something to do with the way FSI injection works as Gene Hunt said. The odd shudder is normal too.

Is it fixable? Surely it doesn't come out the factory like that? And as i mentioned I have heard some that don't have the tick

Confirmed by VW that it is indeed noisy injectors. Thanks.
