Title: door insulation material
Post by: nightroamer on 02 August 2011, 05:35
Hi guys,

Had my door cards off to fit new speakers and found all have damaged or missing door insulation.
Also half the clips are fubar.

Where can I get both items, I know without them the cards rattle.

Also see wanted section as I need a new rear offside  door card lol

just done this.  Get the black foamy plastic stuff from VW - £5 or so a door.  Also get the clips from them, as the ebay ones I got were too small.   Door vapour barrier is part 17 on the front door pic - cut to size.  I used greenhouse tape to secure it.

You'll want 8 or 10 of part 14 - 1H0 868 243 B for the rear door, or similar for a front door.

Also might we worth looking at recent posts on my blog - http://javalins.wordpress.com (http://javalins.wordpress.com)

oh - I have a good condition rear offside door card (98 GTI), a few subtle breaks where it was broken open to get to a seized lock, but the damage is quite well hidden.  Otherwise in VGC. PM me if you are interested.

oh, thoughts whilst I remember:

-> When you cut the insulation to size, make sure you cut it so it fits inside the door card.
-> Easiest way to re-install is to put both parts of the clips on the door card, make sure your insulation is fitted correctly and then put the door-opening-handle through the door-card, attach the pull bar for it and simply push the door card home.  Make sure the cables are in the correct places first.
->  Test fit a few times without the clips attached to the card!
