i was driving along dipped clutch and "bang" what seems like the clip holding the clutch cable to the pedal has snapped off anyone know where to get new clip back on to the pedal and cable and how easy is it to do ?

Get it from dealer and will take about 5 minutes to do

you may find the cable self adjuster is now knackered.... you can try and unadjust it (there is a plastic clip that holds the cable at its pre adjusted length) but i would recomend a new cable
and a second thing, its possible the clutch arm rachet has failed in the gearbox side and you need to remove the green box cap to check

Its just a rubber cushion and a slide clip sort of thing. Very cheap, and very easy to replace.

Yep, mine went bang a few weekends ago, clip had gone rusty, so the pressure from the cable pulled the end completely through.
Was only a few quid from VW (rubber cushion and metal clip come as a pair) and I took it as an oppurtunity to change the clutch cable. Soooooo smooth now!
Little hint from haynes, tie a bit of string round the pedal end of the cable, makes it easier to root the new one back in. Also, lube the top of the clutch pedal where the cable clips to, otherwise it squeaks loudly.
If you can't make it to VW, could always try this. I did mine on a sunday, needed the car the next day so rigged up this bodge. Wouldn't recommend it long term, it was only to get home.
