Title: Kickdown switch on manual?
Post by: pumaboat on 31 July 2011, 18:37
My 59plate manual GTI seems to have an odd "feature" on the the accelerator pedal. On Pressing it 95% down there is an obvious switch like feeling under foot when pressing the further 5%. It feels identical to a old school automatic gearbox kickdown switch which I find odd given the car is manual (obviously nothing is happening in terms or gear or performance).  I guess the unit could be standard across the model.....but does seems a bit odd and would be interested to hear if normal on other folks three pedal cars

cheers

You needed to press my pedal down 95% before anything happened. So I added something to help it along a little.

My pedal does not do that either. Is it just the metal bit moving?  Does it move at the bottom as it sounds like it maybe a bad fit and moving in its plastic mountings?

Looks like a faulty pedal there as mine definitely does NOT do that.

i don't ever remember mine doing this either (mine is a manual too) although to be honest i hardly floor it that often.
am i right in thinking that the pedal is actually electronically controlling the engine revs and it is not physically connected to the engine?

It's just you. That's what happens when you buy the most pointless gadget ever invented!

Any back on topic, as above, faulty pedal.

i wouldnt say faulty pedal... it looks like someone fitted a dsg pedal to yours by mistake. Another quality job by VW.... keep up the good work  :lipsrsealed:
