Title: My Mk3 Golf Kaitlin Now Resprayed Ford ST White .. New pics :D
Post by: curtis1993 on 31 July 2011, 15:58
Hey guys and gals,
i have recently brought a vw golf 1.8 8v.. it looks like it has had a sorry life but with 87,000 miles 2 owners full service history and for 380 quid i cant complain..
well this is how the story goes...
On the 23/6/2011 i stubled across what i thought would be the bargin of the centry on autotrader :D so a quick 15 min drive to teignmouth from torquay and there she was kaitlin was her name ( dont ask the girlfrien thought it suited her)
she was up for 500 pounds that was a bargin in it self but i wanted it to be more of a bargin :D let the bargining begin :D 300 nope she wasnt having any of it 325 ..... ect boom she accepted the offer of 380 :D i was one happy chappy :D so we drove it home .... didnt really get off to a great start as 200 yards down the road she ran out of petrol so a quick push to the petrol station down the road 10 quid later and away we go :D when we got home i had to take some pics due to wanting to start this thread :D
so here you go some pics of her in a sorry state :(

So i decided that i didnt like flat blue paint and want ed to paint it black cheeply as it was only a cheep car ... out camethe rollern black paint as the car was ment to be a rat project :/ well the black i hated but heres pics any way ... we all learn from our mistakes hey :/ :D
(http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/zz351/Curtisprovins/IMG_1141.jpg)

So off i set on a new adventure .. i have decided to spay the beast white ford st white to be exact so my first aim was to get off all the black paint that i applyed extreamly thickly :(

i got bored after two panels :(

All the black is now off :D just priming some of the bare metel and filling in some  dents
i will up load some pictures tomorrow of the preped project :D
it is being lowered on the 9th 60 / 55 in search of some alloys but it is proving a pain on my wage this month :/ and at somepoint i am going to get rid of the horrible blue interior for the vr6 highline interior
it is coming along slowly it is being sprayed after it has been lowered and tbh i cant wait looks a state now but it will look cool when its all done :D

Title: Re: My Mk3 Golf Kaitlin :D
Post by: curtis1993 on 01 August 2011, 23:13
I am useing ford st frozen white in 2 pack paint 5L of it cost me 28.00 + VAT at my local automotive paint supplyer :D gotta love the cheapness :D

Well i have hit a very large stone in the road ... i tried changing the rocker cover gasket as it was badly worn and ermm well it went terably wrong so now i am stuffed and cant get it to the place it is being sprayed what a bummer so i am phoneing my mechanic tomorrow morning to see if her can fix it ... one of the bolt threads has come clean off the block so i need to get it re threaded :( but he will have to come to mine and do it as as soon as she gets up to temp she spues oil everywhere :( bless her :(

Well as promiced updated pics of as she stands now .. i have a week off soon so the white will be applyed then if she is fixed and lowered :D

mirrors are a no no for me as well lol the paint that is on the windows and rubbers is rattle can paint so its fine thinners gets it off in no time i sussed that out before i started :D

as for the black paint b and q exterior gloss with ultra fine gloss rolllers it looked okay before it rained i could of easily polished it up with some 1200 1500 and 2000 :D but chose not too white is the way forward :D

You need to be a tad more specific, what sort you after?

Dish? Size?

May i suggest some Ronal Turbos..

If dish then Borbet A's

Title: Re: My Mk3 Golf Kaitlin :D
Post by: curtis1993 on 16 August 2011, 17:36
the nextr step is the wheels some of the body work needs attention :( but we had to get it done quicky ... as she is going in the garage on thursday for brakes and cambelt and a 50 point check !! ahhh not looking forward to the result lol oh well.. next thing on the list though is wheels it looks horrible on steels it make me wanna puke people laugh at me lol :(

So it kinda goes like this ...

* black roof - end of month
* wheels - end of the month.
* body work - probs next month
* interior - Maybe end of the month
* exhaust - dunno when that will happen
* Coilovers- when funds allow
* Sort out the ice - Slowly getting there
* Service
* May be Spray some bits black to brake it up
* track down a vr6 lump or g60 :D
* spray engine bay Baby Blue

And thats all i can think of as of now no doubt i will think of more :D

What do you guys think? i need ideas on things that will really make it stand out and be different :D

Changing the engine is not really a good idea as so much needs to be changed with starting with a smaller engined base car.

It is as so much is different, much better to start with at least a GTI.

Meh only brakes and a rear axle. I'm doing it atm.

I thought non gtis wernt widetracked? So swappin the rear axle would only widetrack the rear

Correct, also all the loom is different etc

Looms gotta be changed with each engine.

You dont need to change the rear axle but widetrack and easy disc brakes.

Not a lot in it going from an 8v to a VR instead of a 1.4. Only rear pita is the pedal box.

All IMO, these cars are a piece of cake to work on

we had a 50L 3 hp fox vtwin for the compresser and some hard wearing ford st white 2k paint and fast air dry hardener a gazebo and some tarpauling used all the proper stuff minus the gazebo lol :D oh well didnt get that many contaminations apart from silicone contamination which was my fault :( wooopppssss :( she looks alright though :D

as for changing the engine i think i may leave the 1.8 lump in there for now purely as the insurance will shoot right up but give it time :D

planning on giving her another polish tomorrow with some real course cutting compound and some proper polish as you can kind of see where i have flatted it back at the right angle but hey ho :D and i am spraying a few things black not too sure on what yet though ... splitter ... maybe side skirts as they are primer grey may be the whhels too for the time being i am not sure .. :/

Either loose the debadged grill or paint the bottom strip white, that will eliminate the mass of black you've got going on at the front.

Grill looks much better :afro:

Do you know what would complete the front end for me? Joey modded headlights & a VR6 splitter

I'd love a White Mk3, so much potential to look flapping awesome

Looking soooooo much better now man! And some alloys would really help but I'm not sold on those actual ones lol! I'm contemplating getting a second grill and paint it up the way you have!

And I completely agree! That Joey mod is a wicked touch, although get some GTI lights first!

Look at the headlights in my old MK3 in my sig pic. Basically you split the glass from the housing & paint anything inside which isn't a reflector black. I reckon that would look ace on your car

There's a great guide here:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3514617 (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3514617)

This has got a Vento front so is obviously slightly different but you'll get the idea:

I was too slow finding the links

Gti headlights are just plug & play although you'll need extra bulbs. You also need to make sure you get lights with the correct plugs, some are square & some are oval depending on the year of the car. It's not the end of the world if you get the wrong ones as Eurowagens sell adaptors
