Title: strange problem with mk2 8v gti
Post by: Bigdunc on 30 July 2011, 20:42
hi guys i changed my rotor arm today and ever since i changed it ive had problems when starting off the car seams to jump in 1st when going slow sounds like driveshaft sticking or something not engagin correctly,

i have recently set the timng on the car to the guide on here, could maybe setting up the timing on a worn rotor arm caused the new rotor arm to nock the timing out again?

or could i have a slipping clutch or sticking drive shaft?

i dont think its drive shafts as they seam fine when going above 10-15mph just slower i get a slight clunk, which is why im thinking timing/ miss fire

anyone got ideas??

try plug lead.....if you disturbed them when changing rotar arm and your car judders intermitantly it could well be that

Checked all leads, double checked firing order, gonna check timing later double check that, of timing is correct I'll get my mate to check car over, it almost feels like driveshaft sticking but it only does it when moving off slowly when going faster it doesn't which makes me think timing/mis fire as I'm sure driveshaft would get worse the faster you go

When its dark, get the bonnet up start the engine and look to see if there is any of your HT leads shorting to the engine, you should see faint blue sparks if any of your leads are failing

Think i found the problem to the juttering, the front engine mount when you jack up the engine comes away looks like fixings broken so that is prob my cause for juddering, just strange how it breaks at the same time as me changing the rotor arm grrr
