Title: best hybrid turbo
Post by: dubdub69 on 30 July 2011, 13:23
Just  wondering what the best place to get a k03s hybrid turbo from is
ie jbs, cr turbos ,turbo dynamics ,turbo technics
as there are mixed reviews about alot of the companys on here and power/tourque produced also reliabilty issues and ease to custom map etc

jbs sounds good but the price does not and the other companys seem a bit like a box of chocolates
are jbs really worth the extra £££?

What power are you aiming for?

Hi nick
Not really bothered by big bhp more intrested in reliability and midrange torque
Still running the stage 1 remap you did last year but have got the urge for a bit more power and don't want to stress the ko3s with a stage 2
Did think about going the k04-001 set up but heard the hybrid had better gains

I had so much fun with my 001, 300lbft easy and it held is long across the torque band. Where the RS6 based hybrid spools slower and provides less torque, but comes in to it's own over 5000rpm.  Last year I was running 13.8 103mph times at pod with just stage 2 mods, 001 and custom mapping.

Was seriously considering the k04-001
after reading about yours but then I heard about the hybrid and heard that the gains from a ko3s to ko4-001 were not worth the money /work involved
Did you get your turbo from backdraft  and does
the k03s forge actuator and tip fit this or do you need a k04 tip. Also have you had any experiences with the jbs turbos and are they worth the extra money over the rivals
sorry for all the questions just don't want to part with all that cash for a unreliable set up as I don't think they would take it back if I didn't like it lol!

i got mine from backdraft, was a fantastic turbo, nick mapped mine and she did bloody shift!! you can use your K03s tip and i think the forge actuator fits fine

all i can say it the ko4-001 is a VW turbo and has not been played with

the other turbos have been rebuilt and pushed to there limits.

there is a ko4-001 at a scrap yard somewhere near nick, as when my car got writen off that is where it went.

Would they do 1.8T hybrids? I am looking for a small company to make them to the specs as the one I have just built for my car?

cheers

Cheers for the advise
know sandburns very well was going to pop up there next time I am back visiting family when work quietens  Sandburns are great for bits and much cheaper than eBay
The k04-001 sounds like the route I am going to take as I want the oem look and reliability
whats the going rate for second hand k03s 70000 miles ?
