did you follow the your dream and do the job you always wanted to do or do you wish now you did some thing else!
My choices were to either go in the tranport division in the armed forces or work with cars. When i had the accident with my eye (had a dart in in when i was 11 years old which hads left me blind in the right eye) it mend i couldn't join the army so choose to work with cars which i love doing just a shame the wages are crap [brick]
-
I done what i wanted to do, went to college for it, trained for it, moved abroad for it. I then discovered it was totally rubbish so i now do something completely different!
Dont know until you try i suppose.

Did you not consider becoming a pirate?
-
I left school wanting to join the police, wasn't confident enough (and was a bit of a fatty)
Instead did a hairdressing apprenticeship for 3 years, reallised I was a crap hairdresser, then worked for customs.
Then became a PCSO, hated it, so joined the regulars instead, done it for 4 years now, love it.
Can't imagine doing anything else.
-
Did you not consider becoming a pirate?
did but the pay is crap
-
wanted to just get my head down and work, couldn't get a job, did agency when i turned 18 in a factory, absolutely hated it, then my grandad passed away due to cancer so thought i'd do something to make him feel proud, now attending college about to do my 2nd year in electrical installation (would like to do the domestic side), and also got a job at a takeaway and working there for 7 months but now start new job next week in a warehouse temporarily until i find an apprenticeship
-
Studied to be a banker. After my degree, became a banker. Did it for 3 years and hated it. Resigned. Took a year out to do teacher training and became a teacher. That was 12 years ago
-
All through school I wanted to work with cars.
Came to school work experience. I chose two car garages then to make up the choices to four I then went for stacking shelves and last choice was an alarm company as didnt have a clue what it was they did.
Needless to say I got my last choice but enjoyed it and still doing it fifteen years later.
-
Left school in 1991, became a chef as it was my dream job. Travelled the world, had a blast.
Gave it all up few years ago, studied engineering and now I teach!
-
This is going to gain me some stick.
In sixth form I'd secured a place at Theological College so as I could start taking my first steps towards training to become a vicar and took a year out.....
-

Nozzer!!!
Finished my gcse's on my 16th birthday, worked in a rag factory for 5 months packing up clothes from charity shops for shipping out to India and Africa, applied to join the navy just before leaving school and joined in November 98. Always looked upto my uncle as he was minted and was in the navy for 11 years as an engineer, so I joined as an operator mechanic, and switched to an engineer. Probably be medically discharged by march next year, and a bit burned out by engineering now and have lost the passion for it, so time for a career change. No idea whT to do though tbh.......
-
Left school at 16, with no qualifications because I was a lazy, trouble-causing little t*sser at that age and thought I was gonna play rugby league professionally, which didn't pan out after a couple of years floating around the youth teams at Leeds, Wakefield and Keighley. Turns out you need talent! Went to college to get my GCSEs and A-levels, and worked in the pub trade while I did that, glass collecting and then behind the bar. Finished college and got my A-levels at 18, went full-time in the pub I was working in and got promoted to deputy manager, got my GNVQ in hospitality management through work. Worked there until I was 22 in April last year when the company sold the pub off to developers which cost me my job, spent a month applying for every job in the pub game I could find but there was 50 people applying for every position because of the decline in the trade...
Applied for a job in a callcentre out of desperation, still there over a year later. Don't enjoy it but it's 18k for 37 hours over 4 1/2 days with massive sales bonuses and lots of promotion opportunities, far from fun but it's easy and pays the bills
-
Did an Advanced GNVQ Business Studies Course at school, it's the biggest regret of my life; I wish I'd gone to college and done a trade.
Worked in retail for a bit but became very disillusioned with it all so jumped at the chance of a job in composites when I was 22. Still in the industry now but it was never something I can hand on heart say I wanted to have a career in. I'm good at my job and enjoy it so I've got no need to change now

Became a professional beach bum for almost 2 years, from 17 to 19, getting up at silly o'clock in the morning 3 or 4 times a week to watch the sun rise over the Indian ocean, catch some waves, check out the girls and party  Them were the days
Long story short, over the last 10 years I've done many different things and am now an IT Consultant which by far the best career I've had, it's just a pity the company I'm working for has no more room for growth other than becoming a Director - which would be silly seeing as there are 4 people in the company, 2 of which are already Directors.
-
Left school at 15 went straight into full time work as a welder mig and tig was there 3 years left that job got an apprentiship in body work and sprayin and have been doin that 3 years now aged 21 in august :-D

I wish to end up in London one day. I'd go now but girlfriend isn't keen on moving there.

At 15 I was going to join the Navy as an Electrical Articifer. Then found out you didnt get the chance to go to sea for 5 years!
Then was going to be an Architectural Technician, had a job lined up but failed one O level.
Dad said lets try the Motorway. The Swindon section of the M4 was just starting. So went and they offered me a job there and then as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.
Been doing that ever since.
(other than working in factories during building slumps!)
-
Finished GCSes, did A levels then went to uni to study Marketing (had already done business at GCSE and A level). By the final year (It was a 4 year course) I knew I wanted to work in Advertising.
Left uni, worked at a specialist healthcare ad agency for 4 years then left last Nov to work closer to home. I now work in a dead end job with not many prospects doing something I dont enjoy  (You know that crap in the back of newspapers / magazines, I put together the offers and ads for that). I regret leaving my last job now, but it had to be done at the time as working condtions had become intolerable (all teh while the Chairman was living it up on his boat in spain).
Am now consdiering starting something myself with my other half. Her dad imports for a living so we are talkign to him about bringing something across and selling it oursleves. It's kinda what I do now, but at least I will be lining my own pocket and not someone elses.
-
Started working on Saturday's at 15 while in School, did A-levels, worked in hospitality for a bit, did a summer season in Greece as a sailing and windsurfing instructor then went to brookes uni to study Motorsport Engineering but remembered i hated maths and dropped out after a year..
Got into property management 3 years ago and now work for Hamptons as a PM in London

Fortunately my gf is a fashion designer and already has a job up there. Not so keen on London but that's where the work is.

I wanted to be a Vet...
Chemistry didn't want me to be.
So I went to 6th form, did a year of AS-levels, dithered for another year of AS's whilst I waited for college course to start. So now I have 6 AS levels. (Biology, Physics, English Lang, English Lit, Graphic Design, Critical Thinking... :lipsrsealed: )
Went to college did a diploma in engineering.
Went to Uni, did a degree in automotive engineering and design.
Got a job at a tier 1 OEM diesel engineering firm.
Moved to Sheffield, and now work as an R&D engineer
-
I wanted to work in a bank...... but study was never an interest for me (I went into the motor trade instead!) and it took me a further 12 years before I became a banker but now after 6+ years (and the collapse of financial services in general plus the very very near failure of where I work!!) this is my last week and I'm moving accross to insurance instead (which I currently have no knowledge or qualifications at!!)
-
I always wanted to be a vet but then realised near the end of school that I was simply not going to get the myriad of straight As at A level that were necessary to get on a course so decided to do a few varying A levels (I was right I only managed Bs), then couldn't decide what to do, tried uni and hated it with a passion as for me if it wasn't vet science it was pointless.
Always had a feeling I'd end up in IT as I'd had a vague interest since early teens and that's what I've ended up in. Started out working computer fairs selling equipment etc while at college then worked on a helldesk for a few years now doing second line stuff.
Still wish I was a vet  but overall it's not too shabby. I wish I earned more as my OH is likely getting made redundant in the quite near future and he is currently the bigger earner so god only knows what we'll do.
Jules, I'm doing win 7 migrations at the mo also. It's not pleasant, people are so resistant to change. Would do it naked with a smile for 50 fecking grand though lol!!
-
lol there isnt that much money in migration unfortunately, but the company I am doing it with as some good earning potential positions as its a huge investment bank.
Just about to go to a meeting to help the users with Windows 7/Office. Im sure it will be challenging questions :lipsrsealed:
-
''managing user expectations''

Did you not consider becoming a pirate?

-
I wanted to be an aeronautic engineer when I was younger
Then fixated on being a policeman in my teens.
Now 20 I'm happy working as a supervisor lifeguard.
However as of 2012 I'll be chasing the dream I've always wanted. Competing in motorsport
