Hi Steve30 this is a different subject.I have a 2008 Ed30 dsg but was looking at a GTD mk6 what differences are there between them, driving, performance, fuel and overall comparision or should i just look at mk6 Gti
I loved the Ed30, but it was killing me on petrol the GTD is brilliant car with DSG very refined and a better cabin to be in. Get a GTD and map it loads a torque. 50Mpg at 70mph and around london town about 36 and that was given it some too. As the guys say start a thread up , the gti is also a great car but prefer the GTD

There's going to be trouble

Buy both and RIP.

''Funny you should think of this today of all days.
I drove my neighbour's Silver 4 door GTD yesterday for around 20 mins. He has bought a used sample with approx 4k on the clock. It has the Kenwood Sat Nav which I think sounds much better than the RNS 510 but does not compare in looks. Car in immaculate condition.
Impressions:
Colour: Quite fabulous in silver. Rather like the silver bars on the front grille. They look classy.
Wheels: 18" Charleys. They look very good but nowhere as nice as the Monza Shadows which look more OEM to these eyes.
Interior: Very similar to the GTI but the plaid seats look less distinctive than those in the GTI.
Handling: A bit nose heavy and not as fleet of foot as the GTI.
Ride: Not quite as good as the GTI. Could be due to tyre pressures and lack of ACC.
Engine: Noiser than the GTI especially from the outside, excellent mid-range pull, simply amazing mpg.
Road noise at 60 mph: I think very slightly less than mine due to GTD's Continental Tyres
Overall: A very, very good car but not as refined as the GTI. For me the GTI has that extra je nes se qua.
All the above IMO''.

Percy, look at it like this:
ED30: Big turbo, lots of tuning potential but a bit slow to spool up. Rubbish fuel economy if you drive it like it should be driven. Looks a bit special in the right colours.
MK6 GTI: Not as rapid as an ED30 balls out, but has a very quick spooling turbo, pretty impressive fuel economy potential, nice interior, looks 'up to date' with current family VW nose
MK6 GTD: Not as rapid as either of the above balls out. Very torquey engine but higher geared than a GTI so swings and roundabouts. Much more refined than an older PD TDI and doesn't sound that different to a mk5 GTI on tickover. Well insulated cabin makes Diesel noise unobtrusive. Excellent fuel economy potential.
Drive each, make up mind, live with consequences.
And that's as sensible as I can manage.........

Holy Thread Merge Batman!
Must've been Doctor Moderator the devious Diesel driver

Having said all the above, I'll get a Diesel next time most probably as I'll have become more sensible in my dotage.

SEAT do some quite good deals on Diesels ... did I mention that before?

I don't agree that the standard Edition 30 is quicker than the MK6, I've driven both cars and felt the MK6 had a slight edge.
Fastlaps.com agrees
Edition 30 tuning capabilities are massive though.

Have you thought of the edition35 due out soon.

Have you thought of the edition35 due out soon.
Yeah, spend an extra £18k on top of the ED30s value and get a slightly uglier version of the same car!!
-
Keep the ED30 I would say and spend the savings on mods and petrol

Having driven both the GTD and GTI, I would chose the GTI everytime. You only live once so enjoy yourself (within the speed limits obviously!!!!!)

Hi guys thanks for all the feed back.I went today and had a drive in a GTD manual and it was very nice, balls it would not be as quick but in the real world there would not be much in it.The turbo comes on much lower down and there is that many speed cameras around now you cant use the speed. My car i bought from new in May 08 and it only has 17500 miles with DSG in Red whats is it worth totally mint.I use my 09 MX5 in the summer months roof down all the time best of both worlds

How do you make it out to be OTT? It's a guy giving a well rounded opinion on a ride in a GTD compared to a GTI which is the question that was asked is it not? doh
-
And it was quite a nice well rounder opinion from Asker too.
A lot more rounded than the opinion he originally gave me which led to the start of a thread a week or two ago!! That opinion was far more amusing!! :lipsrsealed:

Nail on the head right there
