After finally running out of petrol for the first time ever, I noticed I didn't see a petrol warning light come on.
Do the mk2's have a petrol warning light, or is mine f**ked? :undecided:
-
no mate mk2 & mk3 don't have petrol warning light but mk4 do.

Lol!
Now that you are empty. Fill it up until it reaches the very bottom of the red line. Take a note of how many litres there are for future reference.
And also for our benefit.

Stuck in a fivers worth from a petrol can, the needle didn't even move!
Then put in another £15 once I got her fired up again.
The thing is, I took a gamble, I knew I was really low but I wanted to keep going to:
A) see if I had a petrol light
and
B) To see how long the petrol would last in the red.
I got about 30 miles once the needle had gone past the red and hit the first white 'empty' line!
I've never let it stay in the red for long, always topped it up straight away!

Let's hope you haven't sucked up too much shyte in to the fuel system eh.

Hopefully not!
Learnt that lesson from my first car, every time I [tried to] harshly accelerate it would cough and splutter.

People really need a light to tell them they need fuel? That gauge with the moving needle is a pretty big give away

This.
I had this with a mate who borrowed my T25 Syncro doka years back.
'It's stopped'
'What does the fuel gauge say?'
'empty'
'then it's run out of fuel'
'but the light didn't come on'
'there is no light'
'oh'
'go get some fuel for it'
'ok'
Made me chuckle at the time, still makes me smirk now.
1980s VWs - designed for people who are smart enough that they don't need two warnings.

I knew I was low, I took a gamble and learnt from the mistake
Plus I wanted to see what would happen, curiosity killed the cat, eh?
Been running fine since I put some petrol in, no splutters or nuffink.
