Pickin up a 2.0 8v as my engine isn't very healthy I have the whole car at a scrapyard so can get everytging I need easily enough, has anyone done this? I'm changing engine and box will I have issues with anything? I know it isn't guna give much improvement but instead of spendin money fixin can spend the money on a healthy new lump. And teally its a practice run for when I find an abf locally. Any help will be gd cheers

would be so much easier and cheaper to find an ABF lump and fit it now instead of doing 2 engine conversions..
-
Na the engine is only up the road and only150quid abf are 3 or 4 hundred quid and hundreds of miles away

I think everyone would agree with this.

well your looking in wrong places then... i paid £300 for rebuilt lump and head and £150 for a custom rebuilt gearbox.. all never run from the machine shop

I also want to tune the abf before it goes in. The 2e is just a steppin stone and I'm not worried about doin it twice I'll enjoy it

It'll be simple enough provided your mk2 is a late one (same f/b as mk3). As said, I'd hold out for the abf myself, youl be bored of a 2.0 8v the second you turn the key.. I've gone from 1.3 to 9a, then abf, then I've changed gearbox to 02a, each time taking the engine out. I'm obviously faster now with no labelling up etc and knowing the setup more, so suppose its not the worse case doin things twice, but going back I'd have done the full abf + 02a + all new main engine+gearbox seals, etc etc in 1 go, just to save the misery of doing it all again. Still, what's a couple of hours/days work for the many many hours of joy you'll have with it abf'd.

Mines a g reg 89/90 so yea a late one I'm hopein to use thge manifold off the mk3as mine is scrap is it the same sort off? My 8v hasn't ran rite its slow so hopfully the new one will be a bit better for now. Lookin forward to the abf want to tune that up to 170-180 bhp before it goes in

the mk2 8v is always slow lol.. i have a mk2 8v engine and box just sitting in my garden lol...
Its up to you but its still not exactly a breeze whatever choice..

I know the math what i was saying i managed to get fully brand newly rebuilt for nearly the prices he stated ive seen secondhand engine and box go for £150-200 and a full ABF mk3 go for £250 !
