Title: DSG downshifts - calling on owners experience.........
Post by: GE90 on 27 July 2011, 11:37
Hi all, I’m in need of some advice from any knowledgeable DSG owners……

I recently replaced my manual Edition 30 for a DSG R32, and have noticed an issue when the box changes down, either in D or M. When changing down from say 4th to 3rd, and particularly 3rd to 2nd, I don’t seem to get any rev matching, and as a result experience an uncomfortable amount of engine braking. Could this be normal…? Upshifts and all other aspects are faultless.

The car had a new Mechatronics Unit fitted by the VW dealer just prior to purchasing, and a reset has been attempted, but no improvement. Now being told that this is typical.

Any ideas, thoughts or experiences most welcome!

Thanks!

I've been told jerky changes can be due to needing a dsg service.. Mine are smooth in D but in M im useless at upshifts but when it downshifts they are still smooth..

Thanks very much for your reply.

The oil and filter were changed only recently, when the Mech Unit was replaced, so I don't think it is a servicing issue. Just so frustrating, as the dealer is not really interested, particularly as the Mech Unit has already been replaced. Don't really know where to go.......

Well tbh they give 2 year warranty they need to be interested or call customer services orr such... to me it seems there is a problem with the mech unit obviously not set up properly or such.. if its been serviced there cant really be any other problems..

Sounds like its working fine to me, they don't rev match as such you need to do that bit yourself
