Just surfing the web looking at brake upgrade kits for the good ol mk2.. This is probably not the best braking but it definitely scores some scene points and being a 4pot?? calliper will not exactly be bad for braking..
Can run 10.1 (256mm) up to a 12inch (205mm) disc which are all readily available.. in 4x100
Use an early 4x100 mk3 gti hub (1H2E)
Front and rear calipers are the same from what ive read so can get fronts or rears from a 355.. there is a pair in good nick for £200 on ebay atm.. to fit to the hubs all you need is a head bolt washer to align it all no need for caliper adaptors aslong as you get the callipers with the lugs not the radial fitment.. ferrodo do DS pads for them
Can run a minimum 15inch wheel so rm's are still possible
This is the same calliper used in certain porsche's so they should be readily available
Just curious on peoples thoughts

280mm is biggest you can go and keep 15" wheels
i'm sure the biggest OEM brakes on 4x100 maybe 280mm anyway
355 is an awful lot of unsprung weight
280mm should be enough - i saw a big difference

285mm discs, they make a massive difference and fit behind 15" wheels all ok.

Ferrari 355 brakes not 355mm  Ibiza cupra is a 305mm disc :nerd:

That quotes for a mk1 will that fit the mk2 ?

Don't know much on the matter but I must say would be great if you pull it off.
You'd have to make sure they were stickered up as Ferrari and that the wheels can show them off.

Yes, and they work really well, I was working @ TSR when they were designing them.

Also what calliper do they expect you to currently have to use the extension brackets and make use of those discs? MK1 calipers are small, hence why i'm rocking with Corrado ones.

The calipers are not the main issue, with a bigger disc you got more leverage if that makes sense, I know when I worked they we tried a std mk1 then fitted a 285 kit and the difference measured on a mot brake tester was a lot.

It seems simple to me but probably not so.. They are molded with a raised Ferrari writing would be awesome and can see them being better balanced..

Not going to be simple to fit and if they are early Brembo's they tend to be a complete ballache to keep working as the seals were very poor.

Yeah but on tester the brakes haven't got to worry about the force of the cars weight or momentum.... not sure I'd be content with 285 discs on calipers that were designed for 239mm.

doesn't sound like a wise investment then TBO... What's it rocking with at the mo?

The calipers are not a big problem, better calipers do = better brakes however bigger discs are a massive step forward.
Trust me having tried them on the road they make a big difference.
TSR have sold hundreds of kits over the years so they must be ok.
-
TSR have also sold a lot of engines that have been sh!te lol...
im rocking standard 8v brakes but just looking at doing a bit of bling tbh just an option.. there are many variants you can fit and the brakes cant be any worse than my 8v ones even with black diamond discs and pads they were shocking.. im thinking if i upgrade might aswell do it once and do it with something cool.. my ABF will be atleast 150bhp without mods so the 239mm's wont be any good..
Wayne cant you just get piston seals as i dont some nissan skyline ones with a repair kit was a piece of piss.. ??

They were a good company once.

Respect that 239mm will be no good hence why I suggested the TSR kit, quick. easy and a worthwhile upgrade, say you end up with 160bhp, you still not going to need bonkers brakes in a mk2.

Guess so but early ones were poor and did not like getting wet very often.

I understand your logic but i want to cause whiplash to my passengers lol.. It was just a thought im fed up with running the norm but not something different..
Im no where near fitting new brakes yet just fancy a small 4pot for looks and for fun and with searching could be done on a good budget i recon..
-
Those big numbers are nothing without a bigger MS as i found out.
Just 280mm it and fit a bigger MS FTW

why did you have really bad peddle feel ??

Try to remember how light a mk2 is, you could up overbraking it.

very bad with the standard 8v one. updated to a bigger one that i believe is off a mk2 16v. Much better! Transformed the whole car imo
-
and is this just with the 280mm upgrade ?
-
nissan 4 pots can be made to fit quite easly.
as for that TSR brake upgrde kit - in sorry but there is no desing in that its just caliper spacers and disks. i don't think youd even have to get a pen out at any point in the desing stage

Depends, finding and having discs made was not easy.

Good point.

Massive discs with standard calipers, not sure, bigger calipers and discs with bigger MS = WIN
Forgot to mention the bigger MS in my setup(mk2 16v)... Certainly not over braked but they are very affective.
-
with the setup's ive looked at im defo not going to be over braking imo but would improve the feel a lot..
Danny you got any info on running nissan 4pots as they are cheap as feck.. (all my mates run jap)
-
iirc mounting hols need drilling to a slightly diffrent size and diffrent centers, 1mm bigger and 1mm closer off top of head
the carrier needs some adjustment to get the calliper running centeral on the disk its ether packing the carrier off the hub or the caliper off the carrier cant rember what way round. 200sx calipers or s14 i think
i rember makeing a set fit for someone and it wasent much work bit was a while ago so cant rember the specifics sorry

Are you saying that a F355 only runs on such small disc's.. I find that hard to understand...
I've sold hundreds of Porsche calipers to Audi & VW guys over the years and seriously looked at fitting Porsche 986 boxster rears to my MK2 and after much research found that I would be overbraking the car as it don't have ABS and the lockup's would be never-ending.. So opted not to bother, and stuck with stock...
One Question are the 355 calipers Monoblock or 2 piece (bolted together)?? If the latter just don't bother as stated before they are a b!tch to get them 100% working and corrosion is a mega issue ask an Audi RS2 owner...
-
dont quote me on this but i believe they are monoblock.. and they are the calipers from the rear of a 355 as they are tiny
