Post by: kuvalee on 25 July 2011, 23:12
Hello just bought a blue rivage after selling my mk4 turbo Its a k plate and i think it totally original and its defo solid just wondering how much these normally go for? It's the cloth trim in a blue grey colour full t+t few small dents and scratches. Also do they normaly have cloth or vinyl roofs? Thanks in advance.

Need pics and a bit more detail to give you a what it's worth guide.

It should have a mohair roof if it's original.

The Rivage is a cabrio, hence the prev post re mohair roof. There were only 500 imported into the UK. Two colours blue or green. Leather or fabric upholstery. They have 'le castallet' wheels as standard (just google em). Two other options I know about were heated seats or air con. Yes air con in a cabrio, seems mad to me!
Mine is a J plate blue/fabric trim - 98K with a ton of history. Prices start as low as £500 for a real howler and can reach five figures for a show stopper. Beware of scammers who will dress up a standard cab as a Rivage to get to the higher prices. They will also be keen to knick your wheels for the same reason. Hope this helps

All rivages came with heated seats. All greens had leather. The blues had an option of blue or dark grey interior.

Not sure about the ac as an option...go visit golf mk1 forum for guidelines.

Like mentioned it's all about condition, mileage and originality.

I have seen mint examples change hands for £4k...

I personally like the sportlines...in fact I love all mk1's...

Enjoy your new purchase.

Hi thanks for the reply's I'll try get some pics up at the week end. Love the car it's nice to have a older car for a change so easy to work on! Defo a 1993 rivage as it's stated on the log book but it has a light blue vinyl roof with black leather roof liner and hood cover grey heated seats with purple and green detail black carpet all original parts I think and most important not one spot of rust anywhere at all!

I'm from Bradford originally but looking at a map Newsome's not a million miles away is it.

I'm a sucker for a nice Rivage. I always wanted a blue one years ago but wanted the cream leather interior but I ended up with a green one and loved it. Ran it for four years and spent a pretty penny on it and sold it about fours years ago. My favourite pics of mine are below. Only advice I will give is to check your fuel relay switch in your fuse box. The only real probs I had with mine were with that, it's an easy fix, just sandpaper the conections as the relay gets hot and the plastic from the fuse box burns onto the connections and gunks it all up until eventually the car will not start as there's no true connection.

Does your heated seat switch work ? I have a couple of spares kicking about if it doesn't.

no not far away from you at all,i have seen those pictures loads of times on the internet looks like it was a really nice car.i think the switch works but only the passenger seat is getting warm i think. Thanks for the advice on the relay ill have a look at it when i get chance could you tell me witch one it is? im finding it hard to get a picture of the fuse box with all the relays and fuses named.

Check the plug under the drivers seat if only the passenger seat is getting warm, but it is possible that the elements in the seat have worn out. As for the fuel relay, I think it's the big one in the top left if I remember correctly. To be sure, take it out for a run and then feel it and it will be the warm one.

how much did you pay for it as you said in your OP that you have only just bought it?

it should be worth strong money if its as you have described in your posts? does it drive ok or does it need any work done to it?  if you can do work yourself to rectify any problems before sale then you will have less to be haggled on.

Nice one, you probably would have only regretted it at a later date anyway.

Green Rivages, Black mohair roof.

Blue Rivages, Blue mohair roof.

Made with Classic sonerland material, with Doby weave under fabric backing.

There was an auotmatic version available too...

IIRC the Green was produced in fewer numbers than the blue, so tend to be a bit more scarce.

The blues had Mauritus blue interior with blue carpet and later production model blues came with the Grey/blue seat trim and black carpet.

It's tricky to get a good origional material to repair the seats once the bolster has worn through, so be on the look out in case someone is changing the interior to leather and may have some seat material spare.

These are the last of the MK1 production so most informed owners tend to cherish them, no expense spared so they hold their value quite well.

I had noticed also some had a different badging on the rear, not sure if that is genuine or been added later on by the owners.

One thing to look out for is the Le castelette wheels, they are 15's on the Rivage, but some folks put 14's on and hope you don't notice.

I like the Sportlines also, but no power windows or heated seats and black vynil top as factory fitted.

Less electrical things to go wrong with though, but it is nice having a warm back and bum...lol.

Late on in the season with a windblokker fitted, heated seats on and the heater on you can extend the use of the car and still be toasty with the top down.
