...but I need a bike.
Anyone know of any half decent bikes? I wish to spend no more than £90 really. I just want something that will get me to and from work. Reason being is I'm looking to cut expenses and fuel is one of them. So can anyone help?
-
I'd eBay it mate with that kind of money.

Heres me thinking the MK3 had

Buy second hand for that budget. E bay is your best bet or local free ads.

Good work fatty.
Join Freecycle and join up to a few groups in your area.
Keep a lookout for bikes, and put up some Wanted posts.

depending who you work for, they might have a deal with halfords where you buy a bike,up to £500 and pay weekly/monthly straight from yer wages, used to be done pre tax but labour soon knocked that on the head (used to be a similar thing which let you buy a p.c).at least Royal mail does, but im sure other employeers do it,was meant to save the planet and all that :nerd:
by the way,i cycle 2 1/2 miles each way to work each day,and you do so at your own risk,75% of road users are total kants towards cyclists,so ride aggressively and up the life insurance mate!!

I looked at this. Work buys the bike and leases it back to you.

I sorted this out with my workplace a couple of years ago as i fancied a more practical commuting bike, fasntastic scheme.

I'd always go for a rigid one. Personal preference.

AS someone has already mentioned why dont you talk to your work, im pretty sure most places now have a 'cycle to work' scheme where they can help with gettign you a half decent bike at a good price
-
Thanks for all the advice guys. I am going to put forward this cycle scheme to my bosses at work, although they are away for a couple of weeks at the moment. Does it actually cost them anything?

only if they take out a consumer credit licence, they should actually save money given the reduction in the NI payments
http://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/employers/employer-faqs
by default the scheme allows you a bike / accessories upto £1000 over that and they need a credit licence which costs money.
when you actually come to buying the bike checkout bikeradar as you'll get much better advice than on a car forum.

Just admit it Shady, Chelsea told ya lose weight or no sex!

Take care, ive been run over three times.
Join the cycling federation and get insurance, Wear a helmet and dont ride like a knob.
Dont rush or jump lights etc, watch out for drivers who dont like bikes and grind you into the kerb.
Have proper lights and some LED flashers, look then indicate and never take chances.
Choose your route to work wisely.
If you ride with your ipod on then you deserve to learn your lesson the hard way

To be run over once is unfortunate, three times looks like carelessness, but five times looks like time for an eyetest!

You are obviously an inconsiderate road user, riding with an ipoo on risks your life and other road users.
Sorry but these are the facts.
I used to ride 150 miles a week through london, although unlucky being run over 3 times this is not un common at all.
In london you will see flowers at every cross road and painted white bikes chained to railings, most of the accidnts were avoidable save for things like ipoo's and stupid car/bike drivers
-
They call them zombie cyclists/drivers/walkers because they miss out on so much information from their surroundings and this is why they get involved in accidents.
Get cycling, Shady. I ride to work pretty much every day and it is good for you physically - avoids all that going to the gym nonsense and it is good for you mentally - gives you a bit of head space between work and getting home.

150 miles a week in London - you clearly had a death wish!

+1
spend the time you'd spend in the car / train on a bike for your commute, saves you time, money gets you out in the fresh air and sunshine* and keeps you fit, plus it's an excuse to wear lycra and shave your legs :lipsrsealed:

No it is not a good buy, cheap new (£99) bikes are a waste of time, they weigh a ton and are poor quality, most only last 3mths if your lucky, then when it needs repairs it will end up costing you more than buying it.
Spend £200 on something s/h that is better quality.

I've raced bmx and ridden mountain bikes for over 20 years and worked in an independent high end cycle store and this is one of best pieces of advice you can give to a new cyclist. Cheap bikes are sh!t and false economy - avoid!
