Was on about the early ones. Pre facelift. Worth buying and breaking for that money if you have the space

Price of petrol isn't helping and the good old mk3 is getting on a bit now, was the same with classic range rovers a few years ago i paid £3000 for one and ending up taking £1200 for it a year later.

you should just hope that if you hold onto them long enuff they'l start to go up in price again, i sure a few years back you could pick up a decent mk1 or mk2 for next to nothing?? im only guessin tho as im just a youth lol

mk1's and mk2's are more desirable in fairness so hold their money better. i wasnt a fan at all until i had mine and even though its not as quick as my mk2 its still nice to drive and easy to work on.

I've just got my 8v GTI as part ex on a 106 GTI that I had for sale for £1100. The Golf has a years test, 6 months tax and drives pretty well, high on the miles and a little bit tatty but a solid car. I got £850 and the Golf, so that's £250 for a car with a full MOT and £120 worth of tax, I can drive it for a year and then weigh it in and it won't owe me a penny!
