This should be quite interesting.
-
Indeed
-
Interesting, at time of writing the 'classic' GTI colours of black, silver and red are in the 'lead'! Tastes must have changed a little since the 70s!!
-
As you say the only two original GTI colours of Red and silver are not doing well.
-
I think it is the Candy White owners voting against Reflex Silver and Tornado Red.
-
The sooner this fascination with white cars passes the better imho!
-
Silver has to be the most boring colour due to the amount of silver cars of all breeds you see out on the roads. If we were voting for the best colour, my vote would have to go with red. Oddly, it's quite a rare sight nowadays.
I do think we are very let down by VW given the choice of colours they give us.
-
The home market got a far better range iirc
-
Yes but you have to pay for it.
Also worth a note that VWuk will order your car in any of the 'home market' colours as a special factory order request but you have to pay the extra the same as the Germans do.
-
Sorry to be old fashioned but I really like silver MK6's

Me too. The two iconic colours for the iconic car are the most boring. I'll buy silver next as it's the most boring and therefore a classic. :smug:
-
I'm so tempted to edit "Candy" White
-
Whilst I like your work there Doc, I reckon its Blandy white myself

Make that 66
Another vote for silver I'm afraid... Not that I dislike silver in like a *Bleargh* way, but I prefer just about any other colour.
Every other car on the road seems to be silver these days.
Each to their own eh?
-
Im sick of seeing white cars as they seem to have took over from Silver round were i am.

Mine is silver, if I'd bought it new I wouldn't have got silver. Having said that, it's a great colour for looking clean and when it's really clean I think it looks great.
Jim
-
Mine's silver too. If I'd have bought it new I'd have probably got............ silver! None of the standard colours inspire me and so I would have chosen the easiest to look after and the only colour that doesn't look half painted......silver.
I'd also agree that it is the most boring though. Boring colour for a boring Golf.

I like it in silver, I was thinking about silver when i bought mine. I Just wish VW did a silver like the old diamond silver rather than the current very metallic flaked silver.

Awesome motors mate that give an easy 310 bhp.....
That box will work on them too

Great, at least I know I bought the least boring colour for the Polo GTI

Different rules apply to Polos!
I'm sure yours will be anything but boring!!
-
@Hurdy: Black is very slimming so should make your Polo look minuscule.
@Jimmymature: Are you downgrading to a Seat for the sake of bhp? Seems obtuse especially after a re-map.

If this deal was about in December when I picked up my used GTI, I think this would have tempted me into the Seat for sure.

Only 20 more votes required to make the ton, I may throw this into off topic :lipsrsealed:

Reds not that bad but I see your point on this one, although I don't think you'd be saying that if you had a carbon grey one
-
It's their second choice which they would vote for 'as most boring'.

According to your vote results Carbon Grey (Metallic) @ 2 (2.5%) along with Deep Black Pearl @ 2 (2.5%) are the least boring colours by a long way, as you said Tornado Red 17 (21.3%) is the second most boring colour but be glad you've not got a Reflex Silver (Metallic) @ 25 (31.3%) a colour that I like BTW

Just seen a Silver Mk6 GTI with 19†BBS CK wheels glinting seductively in the 30 degrees C Paris morning sunlight. The beauty, female and no more than 30 years young, driving it, noticed my very fixed and lecherous stare. She smiled and I raised my Champagne flute. We nodded and then she was gone. For that fleeting moment, I thought Exonian had changed sex after his affair with Mickey Mouse.
Silver Mk7 GTI is the order of the day for me. No doubt.

I hope that wasn't a euphamism(sp?) for something ...
-
-
I'm back!
Just seen the above.
No, it was not a euphemism but it could have been in daYs of Yore.
Damn, this BlackberrY keeps tYping a capital Y. WhY?
-
Give the Y button a quick yank to see if it straightens out ...
-
TrYing to Yank it. yeah, yep, done!
Now it's all lower case. Damn.

I wonder why it is that VW UK deem us only fit for such a turgid bunch of colours for the GTI. The Scirocco has some reasonably interesting colours after all. The mk3 GTI was the most woeful GTI ever and yet after the first couple of years it was available in lots of quite interesting colours.
Mind you, my officially boring silver has just been washed but beforehand apart from the brake dust on the alloys and a couple of appreciation deposits from Sussex birds you'd never have realised it had been driven 210 miles, parked up for a fortnight in the open, driven back and then left in a dusty garage all week. I love silver.
On another note, it did the trip on one tankful of fuel there and back and still isn't empty or even on the red. You wouldn't be able to do that with an ED35 engine doing the same speed and traffic cycle I wouldn't mind betting. I'm in love with the car again. If only it had xenons.
-
Andy. Don't fret regarding the Bisexual Xenons. I betchya (Americanism) there will be a new EU Directive banning them. Some sod will take a car company to the European Court with a mostly valid complaint of being blinded by them resulting in a near fatal accident. I don't think we'll have to suffer too long a wait. However, I do envisage we stand more chance of a ban if one of our American Cousins had a bash.
-
Willy boy get voting here.
It's not the moat voted upon thread but it's a great reference point for some
-
Voting closed! But no offence but I'm not keen on the dark met blue.( on an SE yes but not a gti, sorry) And I don't hate everton or support Liverpool or football fc.

We all know Shadow blue is really the most borring GTI colour you all were just too polite.

Actually I had no idea Shadow Blue could look so stunning and now wish I'd chosen it over my adored Deep Black Pearl.
-
Yep that look real nice, hand that one to ya.
-
Only problem with Shadow blue they swirl very easily and it looks awful once it starts , but it looks lovely at night when you pull up at the petrol station
-
My preferred available colours (in order of preference) are Red, Shadow Blue and Silver.
Red is undoubtedly the most dramatic and does not require much cleaning. It's also a no cost option. Brightens one's mood on cold, dull winter mornings. But it's a nightmare colour to match as it fades easily from too much sunlight.
Shadow Blue is delightfully regal, makes the car look 'expensive' but must be kept very clean for the 'shadow' to show.
Silver is extremely practical, glints in sunlight, does not require much cleaning and shows off the designed creases on the bodywork better than any other colour IMO.
If I was to reorder again and for the sake of a colour change, I would go for Silver. I have also never owned a Silver car, so it's time I did.
I cannot possibly comment on the other hues.
-
We all know Shadow blue is really the most borring GTI colour you all were just too polite.
I saw a Shadow Blue GTI the other week in Orlando, the bright sunlight really brings out the colour in a way you just don't see in the UK more than twice a year.
If I were to have bought my GTI new I'd have gone for either white or red, the GTI looks good in both of those colours and it would have been half of the cost of a set of xenons saved.
As it were, for the price I paid I had the choice of black or silver. I went for silver as it's a bit of piss to look after.
I don't really like any of the colour choices that much and would much rather have had Rising Blue.
-
Sorry - has to be red for me (especially if fitted with standard wheels) = dull
-
I never even considered Shadow blue when i was looking but if i had seen pictures like that it would definatley have been in my top 3!
