Title: Fitting a new Master Cylinder - Any Tips??
Post by: X4MGS on 23 July 2011, 20:12
I'm fitting a new master cylinder tomorrow for my son on his Driver-GTI look alike...

Never done one before and just wondered if anyone has any useful tips on how to do it and what pitfalls to watch out for...

Thanks Guys...

Put loads of tissue under it, I took mine off and fluid went everywhere ! I also took off my throttle body, but dont know what the engines like on yours.

I took the cylinder off first, then the brake lines.

I use my old herion syringe and suck it out first. Then re-use the syringe.

Undo a bleed nipple on the caliper and get most of the fluid out. saves damaging any paint

Great Advise But I did it on Sunday!!!

Got most of the DOT 4 on the Driveway so was not a happy Bunny....

Only issue I had was getting the res back into the grommets... WHAT A PITA had to get he KY out....
