Title: Thinking of buying MK5 Gti...but a few questions?
Post by: NoelyB on 23 July 2011, 16:37
Hi everyone

I'm thinking of trading in my 57 Mini Cooper S for a Mk5 Gti and I've a few questions!

I'm looking at spending about £10-11K and realise that for this price I'm probably going to end up with a car older than my Mini, albeit by a year or so, but having read a report In Autocar a couple of weeks ago they've stated that you shouldn't be worried by (a) age and (b) mileage.

I've seen a 56 plate 3 door Gti with 47k on the clock with the DSG gearbox for £9995 at a main VW dealer.

Should I be worried about the mileage, I only do about 7-8k per year so wouldn't be racking up the miles anyway, and also the DSG box, have read horror stories when it goes wrong!  Should I look for a manual instead?  Also is there anything else that I should look out for in general?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

As said above wouldn't worry about that mileage, mines just hit 70k and is still pulling like a train.  Personally I would go for a manual but thats just my preference, plus I don't fancy the repair bills for DSG.  With your budget you should be able to get a really nicely specced car.  Enjoy.
