Title: Nude Girls
Post by: The Hoax on 12 April 2005, 23:48
Sorry Guys - Cheap attempt to gain attention!

I have a 1990 16v with a suspension kit ( I don't know the make but it cost several hundreds of pounds from Bedrock Veedub about 3 years ago.)

It is lower than standard and I suspect that the shockers are shorter. The rear rattles and is most annoying. I posted recently that the little washers that sit above the main upper bush had stress fractured allowing one shocker to pop through into the boot. I have now relaced both sides and it still rattles and its driving me crazy. The problem seems to be that the theaded portion of the shocker insert does not protrude enough for me to get the final nut on after the top bush is fitted. Rather than a flat main top washer, the kit appears to have a bucket washer, but the only way that I can get it all together is to turn the upper top bush upside down so that it is the ridged rather than plain side pointing upwards (sh!t description, I know). Please help as it is almost ruining my enjoyment of an otherwise lovely Oak Green Mk 2.

Thanks for any help pervs!

I had a similar problem on the front with the bolt not sticking up far enough for the nut to go on. Not sure if the backs are similar but take your shocker off and make sure the top cap that holds the spring down is secured in the correct position. i had to wind it down loads which left just the right amount of threaded bar sticking though the stut top.

Thanks a lot guys - I'll try weight in the boot first and if I don't succeed then I will strip and check.

If you have not got enough thread sticking out from the struts to do up the nut properly then it sounds to me like the thread hasn't been done up enough before the strut was fitted back to the car.

As suggested above remove the top cap and nut and washer and you should have a rubber top piece, remove this and theres another washer and a nut underneath that holds everything together.

Try doing this up as it may have come loose.

Also when you remove the top rubber is the lower one, in the turret from underneath, correctly lipped over the little metal flange in the turret. I've had this before where it wasn't sitting in properly.
