Title: Alarm LED stays on then flashes? Now fixed. Siren replaced.
Post by: Snoopy on 22 July 2011, 07:48
Im at work so don't have a manual handy.
I think my alarm LED has changed the way it acts.
Could someone have a look in the manual to tell me whats happening please.

It seems to

3 quick Flashes
Stays on fully for about 5 seconds
Then starts to flash.

Im sure it only quick flashed then went to normal flashes before.  :undecided:

That's normal snoopy, exactly what mine does, 4-5 quick flashes and then steady every 2 seconds give or take

Great something else gone wrong by the look of it.
This cars jinxed from the start

I take it the amount flashes signifies something?

IMHO

Window fault as per the hiccup

When you say horn do you mean the alarm horn / siren or the cars main horn?

If it's the alarm horn I'm sure that if you locate it and unplug it then the cars main horn should take over ( this is based on theory and not tested )

Good luck mate and keep your chin up

The Doc
Door window was odd. It happened last Saturday as i was reversing off the 4 post ramp. I put the window down but it did not want to auto up so i did it up and down about 10 times from both passenger and drivers door to try and get it to work. Simple did not and i put it down to the mirror been foldeded and it been a quirt especially when it worked the next morning.

Alarm horn.
Its the alarm horn not working. To test it I sat in the car, set the alarm and waited for the alarm to arm. I then waved my arms about. Nice flashing hazard lights but no siren/horn
It use to work as i have tried it in the past so i knew what it sounded like if i ever heard an alarm go off.
I only notice the difference in the flashing of the LED this morning and so i would suspect it was fine until today.

Keith
I just want to check my waxoyl from a year ago has not upset the alarm horn first (It should not have). Or they may try and bill me for it you know what dealers are like!  :embarassed:

Is the siren that metal box thing in the drivers wheel arch?

Is the siren that metal box thing in the drivers wheel arch?
There is a metal box SENSORED for security reasons   i noticed when I waxoyl mine. I'm looking at ETKA and it show 2 makes of siren Bosch and Cobra but it doesn't show where they are located.

Electronic siren Bosch >> 05/12/2010 - 1K0 951 605 C - £114.72
Electronic siren Cobra >> 05/12/2010 - 1K8 951 605 A - £114.72 dropped on 01/03/2011 for 1K8 951 605 B - £110.28

In the same picture it shows the ultrasound unit and a horn whether is uses an horn as well but it doesn't show a part number for the horn?

Keith thanks for the info.

SENSORED for security reasons

All that heavy rain this past week may have killed my alarm siren.

This is exactly what happened to my alarm - replaced under warranty. Only downside is that there are two makes of alarm and they had to order mine in.

^Thanks.

Im going to take a quick look this weekend just to make sure its not my fault (should not be as waxoyl was a year and a half ago now but best to check.

Then i think its time to make my list of issues and visit the dealer again to get the alarm siren looked at first then,
+ the squeeks(door rubbers & catches)
+ rattles (3 of the door panels loose near window cause rattles, sunroofs rattle foams gone awol, dash speedo area rattle, sunvisor mirror cover rattle, rear hatch rattle)
+ rear passenger side suspension thump
+ engine hesitant at 30mph 3rd gear when i put my foot down (~2500rpm to 3500rpm)
+ waste gate rod rattle at 2500-3000rpm
+ drivers seat bolster premature ware since ~ 2000 miles
+ strange beep beep click/clunk from engine bay every time i turn the car off and get out.
+ rear washer dribble after use.
+ that passenger window blip it had
+ Paint issues (lack of coverage and a couple of issues),
+ Foam in arches issues, (open cell and soke up water)
+ Xenons seam to have a dead spot in the beam
+ heater that does not seem to regulate temp very well, seem to like to freeze me sometimes.
+ more i have probably forgot about.

Its a bit worrying now i know what the alarm LED ment. As going by the miles i know its been like this since 8am Wednesday morning and its been parked in a ruff part of the city most this week in ear shot but not eye line. I would have never known if something had happened.

I know what you mean

I only found out that mine wasn't working when Darren scanned my car with VCDS when he set up my RNS 510

Might be worth everyone checking that theirs works OK - easy enough check and could save hassle down the line.

Sensored for security reasons

I think this diagram is for LHD so you may have to reverse the way you look at it, eg. Fuse 1 is top right

Thanks again Mike
Sorry to be a pain as you have been more than helpful and its much apreciated, but do you have a list of what fuse is what for future reference you could post up when you have a few minutes as i think it would be very useful to all.
Thanks

Great info, but probably time to remove from the forum away from the eyes of those that would do bad things. The fuse location in particular is too much info for them

I have sensored the thread for you but left the fuses info as i think thats important info for anyone that may have a problem with something in the future.
The alarm will have a battery backup as its thatcham cat1 standard so removing the fuse would not stop the alarm anyway.

I may remove the thread once i have the problem sorted.

+ engine hesitant at 2500rpm
+ waste gate rod rattle at 2500-3000rpm
+ drivers seat bolster premature ware
+ strange beep beep click/clunk from engine bay every time i turn the car off and get out.
+ rear washer dribble
+ that passenger window blip it had
+ Ware on seat bolster after 4K,
+ Paint issues (lack of coverage and a couple of issues),
+ Foam in arches issues, (open cell and soke up water)
+ Xenons seam to have a dead spot in the beam
+ heater that does not seem to regulate temp very well
+ more i have probably forgot about.

Its a bit worrying now i know what the alarm led ment. As going by the miles i know its been like this since 8am Wednesday morning and its been parked in a ruff part of the city most this week in ear shot but not eye line. I would have never known if something had happened.

No wonder you want to change her

I don't really, its our other car we want to change. I do wish the niggles with my mk6 would not multiply though and it was like some of the others on here.

It's no good when you have a caf like this, I had two mk5 r32's and the first one was riddled with faults but the second was perfect.

Good on you for sticking with her - I think I'd not have been so patient

+ rear washer dribble
As I said in the other forum you don't normally here of rear washer nozzles dripping in the UK this happens in the US normally.

Though I thought my rear washer nozzle was leaking earlier this year. You know when you do a wash/wipe on the rear screen it doesn't wipe all the water off it slowly runs down the screen and you have to do a wipe again to clear it. Mine always ran down the screen where the nozzle is so I thought mine was leaking but with closer inspection it wasn't it just dripped around the same place.

My lord Snoops and Jimble. That list of issues is pretty horrendous and would drive me to 'drink'.
Not funny in the least.
Apart from my wonky rear bumper in the flat number plate area (replaced under warranty), self-inflicted damage to front and rear bumpers, vandalism to the roof (twice) and minor damage to the rear screen, my car is faultless and totally rattle free. I would have thought they should all be so. Anything less is unacceptable IMO.
Hope you get these problems attended to and more importantly fixed to your satisfaction.

I can leeve the car over night in the garage, then reverese out and as soon as i pull forward water comes out the washer jet and dribbles down the screen.

Can I just add, I have now seen around 7-8 mk6 golf that have had this defective horn problem I'm wondering if this is a fault from the manufacturer? has I have not seen it has many times in such a short space, and only seen it on 1 mk5 GTi?

Maybe flag this up with the dealer?

Snoopy, I havent read the whole thread but spotted the nozzle problem, are you aware of?

Rear Washer Nozzle Drips After Use TSB 2023248

The water from the rear washer nozzle continues to run out after washer is shut off.

Technical Backround

Rear washer hose retains washer solvent after use. Without a check valve the excess water will continue to drain off out of the washer nozzle.

Service

Fit a non-return valve in the hose of the rear window washing system.

443-955-665 hose
113-955-975-C valve
000-979-992-A sleeve

Blimey snoops, not quite the results you (or anyone else on here) were hoping for aye? I suppose the main issues from that list that i have that they've sorted are the waste gate rattle, the creaking seals and the clicking B pillar trim, it's typical that they're trying to fob you off with the rest!
Did they give you an idea when they'll be getting the part for the waste gate rattle?

14th August they hope as its on back order.
They very kindly supplied me with TPI's (Technical product information) (what a TPS is called in the UK) for the waste gate rattle, creaking seals and clicking B-pillar
All are known TPI issues and easy sorted for you by your dealer.

It makes a ticking or cracking noise as your driving along on uneven roads.
It lists the causes as
Door lock and locking bar (clean and greeze).
Or B-pillar (fix foam tape in the join of the two panels).
Or open weld connections of plastic parts on the rear of the door trim (heat the plastic to remake the join)

Don't tempt me. Its took me a week to calm down before i feel calm enought to think about contacting them about what damage they have done.

They also managed to put two lever marks on the door panel too when removing the panel below the armrest but i was not going to mention that to them as i know how hard it can be to remove panels like that and so i was going to live with it. Until i noticed the damage to the sills on the link above caused by them lifting the car, that was just negligence , they cannot say it was VWs fault either as they managed to not mark those area when it was in for a service in March!
