Considering doing it to my car.
The golf 1.6 I have now is only a little run around for a year or two while I save up some cash for a decent car.
Some of the body work isn't particularly great, would probably need a respray to get it looking great again.
So was thinking lowering it on coilovers, some decent steel wheels, maybe rust the bonnet or wing as well as a few small quirks like a wonky vw badge, broken blanks etc etc
-
rat look for the sake of rat look is not good.
why not do the above but go for a rattle can paint job?
-
Rat look is
If your body work isn't great then roller it a Matte colour, will look much better than it ratted and will still be something a little different

:afro: spot on.

so basically you want attention to your car but to cheap to do anything decent to it.
wonky badge, broken what ever are pieces of sh!t!
sooooo manypeople "rat" their car thinking yea its rat look when really its just utter sh!t look.
rust? why make your car look worse its not going to stand out as so many people have done it.
same as matt black or chalk paint.. i make the effort to ask the person are they still living in 2009
if you want to really rat the golf then at least do something different.
i did a "nurat" car for 2009 show season but did it to a 2 year old c2... hell me and my friend started the ratting a new car look!
this was mine

What Dom said, get some matte paint such as nato green or brown or even red! Then roller it on with a roller
-

A quick coat in ANY of those colours would look 100100101001001001001010 times better than rat look.

 I really like this
-
Same, it's perfect IMHO - Paint chips and all!
-
Likewise, the turquoise one on Schmidts is pretty cool
-
The volksrod is fully going that colour!
-
To begin with I was tempted to paint it satin blue, drop it on coilovers and put some g60 wheels on it, but 1, I don't particularly feel confident painting a car unless someone can find a roller guide for me  and 2, I don't have the biggest budget.
-
Paint = £35
Coilovers = £150
G60s = £120
Sell a kidney.
-
If you got a satin blue graffiti paint like a montana it should cover easy and be nice to work with. Satin dark blue would be nice
-
matte is always better than rat!
-
I wanted to paint my car matt white but I could not find where to buy matt colour rattle cans.
-
How are you meant to paint it? What process would you go through?
-
Mask EVERYTHING off, key with a scotch pad and the spray or roller on, really is that simple.
-
Then coat in lacquer?
-
Then coat in lacquer?
No.
Flat any damage and prime those spots first.
-
So...
1, rub down back to metal
2, primer?
3, spray / roller paint
4, ...
-
won;t need to go back to bare metal.
-
Sorry complete idiot when it comes to this. Anyone fancy making a quick step hy step guide?
