As usual, when I am not sure, i come to the forum for expert advice/experiences.
My Mark 6 has now covered 24.5k and now when it is warming up i have noticed if i ask the car to accelerate from 1800rpm hard, it stutters like either a misfire or fuel starvation. Once above about 2500rpm to 3000rpm it seems to then sort itself out. My thoughts are that the turbo is starting to fail . Good news is the warranty will cover any work. Bad news is if they dont find anything, i am starting to feel that perhaps these great cars are not as bullet proof as I first thought.
Booked in with the local dealer on Monday, but thought worth asking your views, so p[erhaps i am slightly more educated when i arrive on monday morning.
Thanks in anticipation

Could be a coilpack
No engine is 100% bullet proof but you've got your warranty so don't worry
-
sounds like how my problem started :lipsrsealed:
ended with a new engine... or atleast that what i thought
-
For someone who does not fully understand cars, what is a coil pack

Ignition coil
-
ah, thanks. I would have thought that it would do it all the time if that was the cause  although i dont thionk it accelerates like it use to, unless i have just got used to it.

-
Is there any smoke behind you when you accelerate hard? That would be more so an indication to turbo failure. Possibly an older diverter valve that has split? I noticed some of the MK6s coming with the older type?

Yep they replaced the engine... still sounds like a baked bean can on start up. I would also get your spark plugs checked or changed. There have been a few issues with the bosch ones :nerd:
-
Seems similar to this mammoth thread http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/363461.aspx?PageIndex=1 (not sure if you need to register first)
Although that mostly relates to the 1.4TSi 160ps but VW appear to have admitted there is a problem!!
-
Mine does this to a similar degree too (stutters) i have been reading other forums trying to see if others have suffered it.
A few have and theres was either the fuel pump or coil pack.
-
It sounds like the fuel pump. Mine needed replacing after just 1000km. It's happened to a few people I know here in Dubai.
VW replaced this in 48hrs and the car is running fine now 5000km later.
-
As usual you have come back quickly with some examples. I will keep you all posted. Although reading the forum on mark 6's it would appear the mechanic could revs the nuts off it. Wont be happy if I see that
Also anyone had a strange screeching noise (no not the tyres) when you quickly drive forwards, stop and then reverse? \tried to make the clutch slip, but seemed fine, and only does it once every 2-4 weeks.

Thanks, not sure if thats the right noice, i think is more a clutch/bearing sounds, but because it does not happen all the time its a bit baffling. :undecided:

C3PO
Is yours doing what mines doing?
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=199507.0
It does not seem to do it all the time though.
-
Thats almost identifical, mine starts around 2K - 2.5k, the description of hiccup is perfect. Did you get your problem resolved?
-
Its on my list to discuss when i visit the dealer tomorrow to book it in for the alarm issue
-
Mines at the dealer tomorrow too, will report back and see what they come up with. I will suggest fuel pumpo, coil pack and spark plugs from the advice so far. Dont really want an ECU update, from what I have read it ruins the car
-
If you could.
Mines in today for something else. Then back in a week tomorrow for a few other thing to be looked at including this issue so it would be intereted to know what they find out about yours to help and point them in that direction for mine.
-
so, its been in today, and had the following treatment:
Test drive found there was a hiccup as described.
checked for software update - needed update, so update applied, then test drive to discover slight misfire under hard acceleration.
Removed all spark plugs and checked - found cracks in all spark plugs !!!! replaced and tested ok.
Been washed very well, and cleaned inside, which has saved me a job, although not quite to my standards, but saved me several hours
Driven home (not far and all seems well). Given £25 in leisure vouchers as car been put in under warranty.
Time will tell. :lipsrsealed:

Great news, fingers crossed. £25 voucher? What's that for?

Thank you for the update. Glad yours is sorted.
I asked today for a copy of my service invoice from March too see if i had had the software update talked about elsewere but it was not listed and the guy thought it must not have been done if its not on the invoice to VW.
-
...... I would also get your spark plugs checked or changed. There have been a few issues with the bosch ones :nerd:

which new spark plugs did they fit???

No worries, seems to drive like it used to before, and pulls smoothly through the gears again.
Hope you get your sorted, I can relate to how frustrating it is.

It would appear that Wayside Volkswagen give you £25 in vouchers because my car has visited the dealer under warranty !!!! Of course i did not refuse !!!!

Firstly, what is it like to be right
Secondly, dont know which ones, but according to my brother in law (VW Technician) they are supposed to do about 80K, and the dealer suspected they had overheated !!!! not sure about that, but certainly back to how it should be.

Wow, I wish Ridgeway VW did that, I'd be better off by £125!

If VW Leeds did that I wouldnt have to work
-
Wayside gave me didly squat for messing me about, im not there greatest fan. Anyway.
Glad its sorted though, spark plugs that would also explain every so often the slight miss as i first pull out the drive onto the main road in a morning. Hum.
May i ask C3PO what ages is your car?
-
The car is a 59 plate, registered in September 2009. As i said, up to the last couple of weeks never missed a beat and if has done various journeys and covered 24.5K.
Is yours a similar age?
-
The original spark plugs 101 905 631H were dropped on 1/11/10 and replaced with 06H 905 611
I wonder was there an issue.. :undecided:

blimey, looks like i have been lucky then, and i am not talking about the vouchers. although io could also have taken up to £25 in value from the accessories on display, but think having VW cufflinks would be a step too far !!!!

Does your turbo seem to whissle when you put you foot down and take it right up the rev range in 2nd/3rd/4th?
Mine only seem to do it when its a constant acceleration through the gears but not if accelerating in say 4th to over take :undecided:
-
Yep, mines whistles like that as well through the gears, and I'd swear it's only something it's just started doing :undecided:

Thats what i thought too. :undecided:

No wolf whistles from Wolfgang, but then I am driving like demented Miss Daisy spurred on by Wagner's Operas wildly and wondrously winging me on my way. Anyway, I listen to my music not my engine as I strongly feel this is much more enjoyable.

Weird!! I've only recently noticed this as well, mines done about 5500 miles now.

Mines on ~ 4800 so around the same miles as your.

Not noticed that on mine, although my mark 5 did whistle more, the turbo on the mark 6 seems quieter some how.
-
Now now children
exactly, thread cleaned up abit.
-
GolfTi: Have you a turbo whistle?
-
Of course.
Quieter than the mk5 though.
-
As my dealer does not seem to be able to find a fault. probably as there technicians computer says no....
Anyone know the make and model of the plugs effected.
