I have a 58 plate GT TDI 170. The original stereo and speakers aren't too bad in my opinion but would like to know what advice you would give to upgrade? I'm not bothered about booming subs etc, just want a better quality sound. Would it be wise to have the 8 speakers replaced with some more powerful better quality ones, or should i be looking at a new amp to srive the speakers?
Budget is an issue! Happy to spend a few hundred.

Ideally to improve volume and quality you will want an external amp.
Me personally, I would only upgrade the fronts and amp them. Then fade the rears off.
Replace the standards with components and consider installation as will as kit.
Or
Try mounting the current speakers on a solid baffle, piece of birch as big as you can fit behind the door card. Then bolt this to the door itself. Also deaden as much of the door as you can.
A nice solid baffle and a bit of deadening will improve the sound tremendously.
