Hi
My 2L 8V is not running properly, when it starts it idles ok and when you rev it the idle needle goes pretty erratic and then it cuts out. What could it be? Any ideas need to get it to Santa Pod this weekend. Thanks.

What has been tried so far?
Have you tried cleaning the throttle body with Carb Cleaner?
-
Hi
We tried to change a relay as there was a clicking noise coming from No 106. This has now stopped. We have also checked that there is power going to the ingition coil, there is.
-
Try changing the relays as well as cleaning the throttle body then.
ECU: 30
Fuel Pump: 167
Get them from the dealers as they are better and still the same price.

Well done Jamie.

Well done Jamie.
It's the only stuff i know how to do!

Check all hoses in the engine bay for splits etc too. Could be a vacuum leak too.
-
Is it a 2E engine code ? could be your isv valve needs a clean if so if not any of the above is possible  do you know anyone with vag com?
-
We have changed all the relays, tried a new coil, HT leads, Dizzy Cap, and had VAG Com on it, this came up with the cam sensor faulty (replaced this) Clean all of the above and now the car wont even spark let alone try to turn over.
Help any more suggestions on why it is now not getting a spark?
Also checked for holes in the Air pipe there was and that has now been fixed still makes no difference.
-
No spark at all??
Very strange!
Ummm I assume the battery is fine?
-
Not the slightest spark what so ever battery is bran new
-
So will it turn over?
If not then check main cables from battery to starter and solenoid.
Also main Earth.
-
Yep engine does turn over but there is no spark and it wont go all the way to get it going.
-
So is there a spark to the coil?
-
yes there is a small spark
-
May sound silly but have you replaced the spark plugs?
-
Has to be the coil then!
And yes I know you say you have replaced it but I dont see what else it can be!
-
Yeah, that would have been my other suggestion, try replacing the coil again, seen it happen many times on here!
-
if the spark is weak on new leads, it may also be worth checking the main lead from the coil to the dizzy cap - try swapping it with one of the others.

When you turn the ignition on so all your dash lights come on can you hear the fuel pump in the boot ?.If not i would bet money that it is relay number 30.
