Post by: luke on 19 July 2011, 04:18
I'm buying a white iPhone 3gs 32gb, sim card doesn't work in it, shows signal but that is it, I've heard carphone warehouse will fix this problem for a small fee, anybody be able to shed a light on the problem?

If its had the IMEI blocked it wouldn't show as having signal.

I reported mine lost about 3 months ago and had it blocked. Brother phoned me last week and said he had found it down the side of the bed in his spare room. Thought I had lost it out on the razz when I stayed at his. Put my new sim card in and got a signal and network, but couldnt make calls etc.  :undecided:

Sounds like its IMEI barred and there is nothing you can do about it mate! ifyou get me the phones serial i can check for you? but if its reported as an insurance or theft your screwed bud best thing would be to sell on ebay as wont work in uk as a imei bar will only work on uk networks.... will work everywhere else

i had this as well, you can ring network provider and they will tell you. I put mine on ebay and they removed it a day later saying about encouraging illegal activities!!! worth a go though

They cant remove an iphone if you list it as not working in the uk  know this as i have sold about 7 on ebay as my mate is a taxi driver and comes accross them.... as long as u dont list as blacklisted its not illegal... the people that buy them know they are not for uk

Don't worry its not stolen, its my friends upgrade as I've had enough of the HTC wildfire, so if i get a new sim card it may work?  I'll have to get one cut anyway to fit

+! and in any case even an old sim should work to make calls and texts just other services may not work... try the new sim if that doesnt work i would do a hard reset of the phone... but as i said it doesnt need to be stolen to be blacklisted if you get me the imei number ican check

Jailbroken is not unlocked this just means it can run third party software, unlocking depends on the modem software code, some can be unlocked  very easily and some can't be unlocked at all.

this one's doing alright, apart from splitting a coolant pipe but that was fixed by the roadside with a screwdriver

The iphone 3gs can use both micro sims and older size ones. Networks encourage you get a micro one as its a standard fault find process with tech suport if you use an older one.

Put you sim card in, edit the cell data settings and see if you can access the net. If you can but cant make calls, then it most likely black listed. iYou can still use data services with a blacklisted phone.

If it was blacked listed there are ways around it using a orange sim card

it's not blacklisted, it's in good hands with Alec (off this forum), the power button is temperamental so going to order one from ebay so it works fully and a nice silicone case to go with it, my laptop would just keep coming up with "usb not recognized" after many things tried, so hopefully have a nice working iphone by the end of the week
