article in local rag....someone's managed to keep their licence when on 20 points!!
http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/local_2_17092/12_points_and_over_is_it_too_easy_to_avoid_a_driving_ban_1_2876014
Makes a mockery of the exceptional hardship argument, if offenders are persistent in my opinion

Scary stuff. Personally I think the 'exceptional hardship' rules should be done away with. If your car is so important to you, don't drive like a d!ck.
-
Quite a few uninsured drivers.
-
You can only plead E/H once every 3 years and you'll probably find that on 20 points he can only drive to and from work and while at work.
-
It's a joke, there are people who have more points than that and can still drive. The Magistrates who allow these people to escape a ban should be made to step down, totally unacceptable

Its a joke isnt it. Why are some rules different for others? The magistrates at my court case had a letter saying I would lose my job yet they still ban me. It needs to be one rule for everyone and not one rule for some and a different for others (Im just a bit bitter is all :D)
-
what did you get banned for though? some things are automatic bans like drink driving etc

Yeah, but who decides drink driving is worse than accumulating 20 points?
Im not really going anywhere with this, Im just having a rant.

I think that shows that each individual case can be different.
As in your case, Alan, you were unlucky, its not like you got drunk then got straight into your car to drive home..

Prior to my event I thought thats how it worked as that makes sense does it not? Obviously not.

I can't say I blame you, part of the problem is that with your offence there is all but no discretion so you get the minimum and that’s it but when someone is a totter there are a few things that are discretionary and it would appear as though these people have been allowed to drive a wagon and horses through what should if non existent a very small loop hole, the whole thing stinks !

I find it completely unacceptable to be honest.
Another example of how the governance of this country has fallen apart....
