What a strange project.

Took the heavy and weaker body (5dr), took everything out but left the dash - which weighs a fair bit - did this all to an 8v - not exactly the most powerful golf ever built - and did this with a big bumper version as well.

If memory serves me correct there is 1200kgs on a the big bumper 5dr vs 1000kgs on a small bumber 3dr.

And if you want a track day car - why a Mk2? Mk1 weigh so much less!??

Very odd.

mk1's are rare and parts are hard to find so i wouldnt have one as a track car.

I drove a jetta which is a 4 door and i can say that it handled better than my 3 door mk2 with coilovers.

how would a 5 door shell be weaker?

they would have reinforced it, not just cut holes in the side
