Hi - I am new to the forum and wonder if anyone out there can answer a simple Q, but one which no one around here seems to know!
I have recently bought new black diamond discs/pads all round for my 89' Golf GTi. The company sent me the wrong front set; they are bigger and seem to be for 16v. Rather than send them back, I thought maybe I could go bigger!! One company says 16v and 8v discs are different, another says they are the same (?!)
Can anyone tell me if 16v callipers will fit my 8v or whether I would need something else to make them fit??
Thanks!
Al

i have an 88 golf which had smaller discs on same as 8v cant remember the size think standard 16v is 256? may be wrong. i did a g60 conversion which needed calipers and carriers to do the conversion. very good mod in my eyes !

Hi - yep G60 would do it but already paid £288 for the black diamond set, to uprate to G60 would cost around the same for callipers and carriers. So next best is for someone to tell me if 16v callipers would fit my 8v, or if there is sommit else i would need to make em fit....
cheers Al

What size are they

8v - 239mm
16v -256mm
G60 -280mm
From what ive read. you need 16v hubs for the following - 256mm 16v disks / 280mm g60 disks.
No point in bigger brakes without a suitable master cylinder as i found out. A 16v master cylinder was a big improvement

This. On the MK1 i'm running with calipers from a g60 raddo, carries from an audi, master cylinder and discs from a mk2 valver.

Great! Thanks for that, so the callipers are the same - just need to find some hubs and a cylinder
