Title: mk3 8v temperature sensor
Post by: tianaroja on 11 April 2005, 20:28
i am rapidly losing faith with this mk3 i want my mk2 back, my mk3 has been idling at 1500-1800  for months i read the forum and cleaned the deposits off the throttle bodies great for 2 weeks now it is difficult to start from cold , 3 or 4 turns and then you cant move for a minute or it just dies, seems like it needs choke !, logically i thought cold start valve but  reading around it seems temperature sensor is a more common fault , does this description sound like it could be this sensor and if it is how much! any help will be greatly appreciated

yes i was thinking that , i have checked isv valve as well and that wasnt fitted properly thought i had cracked it , the car runs perfect when warm is it the temperature sensor that tells the cold sart valve to work ?if you know what i mean

i don't know anything from personal experience about this temp sensor stuff *touch wood*.. but i have read that problems like you're describing can be related to it.. sounds likely esp with the way the problem is related to temp instead of being a more general thing...

i think they're quite cheap arent they?
