Ok, so I bought some Boge turbo shocks with eibach pro kit springs off a vr6 t'other day, with intention of fitting them this weekend.
However whilst i've been searching for "how tos" I've come across people saying that the vr6 fronts will not fit an 8v gti, is this true??
If they do/will fit, will my front end stay at same height, as also stated that due to weight of vr6, front strut poundage is different!!!
Could some please enlighten me.
-
Should be fine, but the front may not sit quite as low and it would with a VR lump over it
-
Might want to ugrade to vr6 top mounts at the same time

That is correct, they will not lower an 8v due to engine weight.
-
Right ok, so front won't lower much more than what it sits now, but back will lower?!?
These are what I have http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280706399726&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280706399726&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)
edit: THink the top mounts are there

I would fit new top mounts
-
Right so going to need spring compressors, and new top mounts, for both back and front or just front?
Would the springs work with my standard front struts?

I would fit new rear top mounts as well.

Ok cheers, looks like will have to wait till next weekend to fit

Struts are all the same, springs are different rates, better to fit the Boge shocks.

They are not expensive, also they can be replaced afterwards really easy if you wanted to.

Ok so keep the boge.
Test fit the weekend, buy all mounts and compressor in the week, replace next weekend.
Have loads of fun

Ok so haven't got round to fitting these yet, hoping to this weekend, still a bit wary on the front struts though, as springs and rears match up to what would fit mine. Do I just bite the bullet and fit, or just change the springs??? :undecided:

Just a quick question Wayne.
I've come across a webpage stating that the front struts were changed mid 96 so that all gti/vr6 models had the same front strut, could you or anyone else shed some more light on this please.

All front shocks are the same, front springs changed top size around 1996 however.
-
Top size? Sorry what would that mean :embarassed:

The top of the front spring changed size, they can be 65mm or 80mm from memory.
-
Just been looking at eibach site, and front spring numbers are the same for 2.0 and 2.8 vr6 E8547-140 part no/ F8547001 stamping front
Mines a 97, so I should be ok - right?

Thanks everyone
edit: Will et you know how it all turns out

Right ok, so I haven't managed to do this yet, things keep popping up, but as it's bank holiday weekend, it's being done. Have cleaned up all the suspension, ready to do, as some of you may or may not know I purchased some new shoes for it.
Right now for the question
I have numerous spacers that came with the wheels all in pairs 25mm, 15mm, 10mm and 5mm. Which sizes should I use for front and which for back. The guy I bought the wheels from couldn't remember if et was 35 or 38, but i've followed a guide, and got roughly 40.
All advice welcome

I've managed to put the rear suspension on, front suspension nuts being a b!tch. But I think I may of got something wrong. Looking at a pic on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vw-mk-3-golf-lowering-springs-and-struts-60mm-/170687054387?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27bdbdc233 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vw-mk-3-golf-lowering-springs-and-struts-60mm-/170687054387?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27bdbdc233) I think I may have put the top rubber the wrong way round. Is the pic correct?
