As titled says, when i start the engine from cold the engine revs up to about 2000rpm on average, anyone any ideas why this could be happening? Heres a video of it:

PS: Car doesnt need serviced, mechanic who serviced it forgot to knock the message off lol altho its going to him tomorrow get that done. Cambelt and waterpump has been changed about 500mile ago, and as mentioned in a thread yesterday my exhaust is bungo'd altho this irratic rev up on cold starts has been happening for a while before the exhaust went.

Is that not normal? Mind does similar and then settles down.
It could do with a bit of a clean of the throttle body maybe? Have you scanned for any faults also?
-
Tb was cleaned recently and no faults, just seemed a bit high to me, I had a 318ci before this gti and can't remember it revving up as high, maybe this normal lol it's my first petrol golf like had a GT tdi pd few years ago so all still newly fangled to me :)

which engine is it? tb could need aligned.
unsure if 1.8t has an idle control valve
-
Elevated revs come from secondary air pump running but try grand seems a bit high.
Mine goes to about 1200_1300, pump has had rivets replaced.
-
It's a 1.8t, I'll get the mechanic to have a look at the secondary air pump then :) least I know now I'm not imagining something wrong

Thats not what I'm saying, tb clean/alignment would be my first guess.
