We have a new manager which started a few days ago at work, and he has brought up the whole break thing at work.
Before he was here, if you were doing a 9 hour shift you would get 1 hour lunch (unpaid) and 2x 15 min breaks.
Now he is saying you're entitled to just 20 mins for every 8 hours worked. So is offering just 1 hour for lunch which is unpaid anyway.. Is this legit? Does the 1 hour lunch (unpaid) cover this?
-
i think hes right at my place i get 2x15mins and one 30 mins unpaid lunch break but i take 45 on all 3 of them haha
-
The law stated you are entitled to 20 minutes if you work more than 6 hours, this does not have to be paid.
There are some exceptions, and there are different rules for under 18's.

if you work with computer screens, you get 5 minutes for every 30 minutes sitting in front of them

hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa
I don't know anyone that uses a PC that has a break that often or even looks away or does something else for 5 mins. Well apart from our 'new' girl, she only does 5 mins work for every hour :lipsrsealed:

When in the office, half hour (unpaid) lunch and the occasional fag break within reason.
On site, half hour lunch (unpaid) but then breaks whenever you feel like it say breakfast, fags, providing the job gets done.
Site days are a lot longer though I'll add. 12 - 15 hours including travel

In my office I go for lunch when ever I want, for however long I want (without taking the piss)
If I need to smoke I'll go for one
-
I start at 7:30 have a half hour breakie break at 9:30. then a coffee break at 11:15. Dinner at 12:40 till 13:30. then another coffee break at 14:45 and pack up at 15:30 can go for a smoke whenever I want. And thats when am working outside or somewhere cold.
When am working in the production area its a break every 30 mins at least and in some areas 15mins in 30mins out due to heat stress working in 60 degree heat with overalls, hardhat, ear muffs and all the other P.P.E on is a little uncomfortably

i started my break at 07:35 and finished it at 16:55
-
I work 12 hour shifts and I get 1 hour 18mins official break unpaid, so get paid 10 hours 42 mins. Unofficially we get 4 hour breaks as many tea breaks as we want and put down no meal break if we break a sweat

you missed an important bit, whats your job?
-
I start at 8:30 and finish at 7pm ish (still at work now :embarassed:)
No real breaks, sometimes I go up to the bakery for a sarnie but most of the time i dont even get a lunch break, Private sector can be a b!tch.
On the upside ive spent the summer managing my projects in Germany (black forest), Switzerland, Ireland, Norway, Sweeden and Denmark.
I have been away from the office from early May until last week, so I cant complain about not having a 15 min break on a regular basis, especialy as I have a company visa

you've had a 21 year long break..... wait till you start real work....
-
I start at 7.30, finish at 16.30 and have a 10 minute paid break at 10am and 3pm, and have a half hour unpaid break at 12.15. Your boss will be changing working conditions so I'm pretty sure he will have to give you some sort of notice...

its 23.5 years, but i did actually work some of it,
10 years infact on shift, so with leave allowance was 4 months a year
and REAL work, you know my next job, its not going to be hard now is it

 Tell me about it. Almost 13 years done and cant say I have actually worked to set times for 1 day of that!
Getting paid 24 hours a day sounds pretty good to most, but bear in mind if you break it down, its actually less than minimum wage!
Officially breaks are 10.15 - 10.30, and lunch at 12-1.15 alongside and 1.30 at sea. In reality its cowboy time at 09.50 and back at 10.30, then again at 11.30. But we do go back at the proper times after lunch too! Go for a fag whenever I want one as well. Day working hours 8-4

Yeah I got told that at induction from the HR bird. I worked it out as follows:
09.00 - start work
10.00 - 10 minute break
10.10 - back to work
11.10 - 10 minute break
11.20 - back to work
12.20 - lunch break
13.20 - back to work
14.20 - 10 minute break
14.30 - back to work
15.30 - 10 minute break
15.40 - back to work
16.40 - 10 minute break
16.50 - back to work
17:00 - go home
Total "eye" breaks = 50 minutes of "eye" breaks. In reality this never happens but it would be nice.
