Title: Black vinyl strip around rear window
Post by: Lee Watson on 11 April 2005, 14:19
Hi

I've just purchased a second hand tailgate for my MK2 GTI 16v as mine is almost dead, I've striped it down
so I can remove any rust before spraying but I'm not sure of the best way to remove the black vinyl strip
around the window.

Has anyone got any idea's?   :undecided:

Cheers

Lee

heat it and pull it off then use tar remover or something similar to remove any left over residue

i assume you have the glass n all removed?

u can get a new surround from www.gpcvwaudi.com for £25

It's a complete pisser when you hit the strip at an angle with your jet wash and rip chunks out of it. I have done this to two cars - Doh!

Use a paint stripper heat gun. Apply a little heat then grab a corner and start peeling slowly. Its real easy once you get going.
