hi guys my gti needs discs front and back is it worth going up in diameter on the front discs,if so where is the best place to buy from.its a 89 1.8 8v

Standard will do the job well, vw aren't too expensive  these days  :D

Stick with standard size otherwise you'll have to change your calipers to get the next size discs up from yours, the 256mm 16V ones.
