Title: Wheel spacers? Good or bad?
Post by: craig4004 on 12 July 2011, 15:41
Got me some wheels for my mk4, all refurbed etc, went to fit them and the inside rubbed on the strut on the fronts :( I'm thinking 5mm spacers will sort it but not sure Wich ones to get. I'm seriously low on budget and saw there are universal shims that are £10 per pair that will fit. I then saw the hub-centric ones which were a lot more expensive. I wondered if anyone could enlighten me on what the difference is, and weather the universal shims would be ok for now? Cheers :)

you dont need hubcentric for 5mm, try and find some that are the correct bore size to reduce wheel wobble

hubcentric are for the correct bore size i.e 57.1 for the mk4

shims are not and can cause wheel wobble

i paid £40 for 5mm spacers with correct bore size off ebay mate

I thought that might be a problem with 20mm.. I think i will go for 15mm Hubcentric for the rear of mine.

The ones iv been looking at have a bore of 76mm and say they are made for a mk4 :S I'm guessing it's just a universal kit and they change the add accordingly! Has anyone had experience with these cheap shims?
