Title: 312mm brakes on the rear
Post by: Wayne on 11 July 2011, 20:40
Looking at the Skoda forum earlier, saw this topic: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/207009-312mm-discs-on-rear/

Now is this a good idea, I am not thinking of doing but just wondered as it makes little sense to me.

As long as the bias can be played with, theres no problem in terms of how the system will operate, its just that you are fitting something for nothing. It is extra unsprung weight but the ratio of sprung to unsprung weight will barely change so it shouldnt have any noticable effect on the handling. Im presuming this wouldnt affect the operation of the ABS system?

I find it funny that the supposedly knowledgable chap who is looking to do this finds the rear of his car quite skittish and yet thinks more braking power is needed at that end?????

not that funny really. B5 audis are known for being skittish under heavy braking due to the massive nosedives they do when you slam on. Fitting larger brakes to the rear balances this out a bit, reduces the dive and makes the car more stable on the brakes and improves stopping power. Definitely a mod im going to do with mine when i can source some decently priced FL rear calipers.
I dont know if the vrs suffers from a simliar problem or not, but can see it being a solution.
