Title: HELP!... Rich?
Post by: richard ellison on 11 April 2005, 09:22
Spoken to the garage about the car.

Seems its not the fusebox but the plugs behind. At least one needs replacing (the white one?!)

The big problem is he doesnt reckon you can buy them anymore.

Has anyone got a fusebox with these plugs in the back? Im desperate to get this sorted! And not a decent scrappy in sight around here

Im just dead on my feet. Havent got a clue where to go to get this sorted.

Richard, lets not panic here yet, what is it that you need ? What is the white plug behind the fuse box and what's it for, do you know ? Have you tried VAG ? He says he doesn't reckon you can buy them anymore but do you know for sure ? Have you tried ECP or even GSF, then try crazyquiff guy, he seems to get hold of all sorts, maybe he could source one for you. You could even try some of the air cooled suppliers as they maybe able to get hold of what you are after  :undecided: I think there's several avenues to go down before throwing in the towel just yet.

Yeah I'll have one and I've also got the special tool you need to remove the crimps from the plug. You say you're at your parents and not in Reading. Where are you then?

Nope, none of them stock them. They are obselete.

Fuseboxes are made, new one needed aswell.

To cut a long story short today consisted of:
-eventually finding the correct fusebox and plugs from a scappy in liverpool out of a VW truck
-travel over there without realising the toll (as humourous as it is to pay to get INTO liverpool) had gone up 10p
-find the bloke. Charged me 50 quid for plugs with wire pieces attached and fusebox. Had to ask other customers if they could spare me 30p to get back over the water  :embarassed:
-travel to chester where the car was sitting, still hadnt moved.
-wait nearly an hour for the tow truck to arrive
-get it towed to the garage 40mins away
-them to look at the bits and tell me 3 of the 4 plugs can be used. One plug had burnt out and damaged the fusebox. This means effectively ive paid 50 quid for three plugs (quite expensive i thought)
-phoned the bloke up from the garage, he doesnt believe its faulty. He wants me to bring my knackered one AND his one that doesnt work to him, again in liverpool before he will think about doing anything for me.

So tommorrow:
-go back to garage to pick up both fuseboxes
-travel to liverpool with correct change to get through the tolls
-argue till im red in the face
-travel back over to the garage

They have said this should sort things. Physically the body is in great condition for a 15yr old car, but the ancillaricies are boll0cksed.

  :embarassed: :undecided:

North West. In between Liverpool and Chester.

One of the major problems is that its a very early fusebox- ceramic plugs etc.

Again thanks for your help guys. Managed to get a new fusebox cheap from the net. Arrives tommorrow.

I've got an early fusebox.........is it the one with the single row of relays or double? I have both types. I've also got complete looms and obviously plugs. If you can get it going enough to get it to Reading then we're game on. Otherwise..........good luck, sounds like this is costing a little too much though :undecided:
