hi peeps!!
im pretty new to the forum and use this as well as my bro, im looking to work out a budget for my MK2 golf i wana get a decent headunit, two speakers for the doors, 1 sub and an amp. i want a decent quality, my musical taste ranges alot beatles to heavy metal, dance the lot!!! so it needs to be varied. i guess the budget would be around £600-£800 though the £600 end would be ideal...
i dont go for the CD's , i have an Iphone and Ipods so they would be the prefered coneection.
if anyone has any good ideas to what equipment i should look at that would be awesome as im not sure, i know nothing about in car music systems, iv scouted the forums and im none the wiser :(
thanks in advance, and please go easy on me :D

I'll sort a kit list out later on for you.
What size comps are standard in the mk2?
Will you do the work yourself?

well my golf mk2 has the built in box at the bottom of the doors, so il need to convert them to speaker pods, so it wont be the stardard size, i hope this is the answer you were looking for :D
as another question, are the rear speakers in the parcel supprts worth swapping, will you gain any benefit from the sound sitting in the front, im not a taxi service (no lifts :D) so im wondering if they are worth changing budget would have to rise im sure
thanks

work would be done by a friend with sound knowledge btw...just adding that :D

I uprated my front speakers. I took out the dash speakers and put some in the door.

That's my rough guide of what I did!
As for the rears, I changed mine. 20 years takes its toll on the speakers, I just got some cheap JBL 6x4's.
Sounds so much better with the door speakers and rears, more of a panoramic sound.
I also have a fli active sub, meaning the amp is built in. Not into massive bass, I just wanted to add depth to the music.
Got my entire sound system for under £100 and I can't fault it!

Just had a quick mooch. I reckon something like this would be good.
Jbl 2ch £100
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8036.html.
Jbl mono £150
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8040.html
Best value for money amps about. Keep beat them. I've heard both these amps and are well worth a listen.
JL sub £200
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/12606.html
Friend had one. Put it in a sealed enclosure and it'll sing.
Hertz comps £100
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8400.html
Or
Dls £100
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/9114.html
Either are good. Dls will be warmer, hertz a bit more aggressive.
Pioneer HU £140
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/14455.html
I prefer pioneer. That's the only reason I went with this unit. At this budget they're all pretty much the same.
I don't see the point in rear speakers. Sound should come from the front.
Add to this list cables and a bit of deadening for the doors and you've got a pretty nice install matey.

thanks for all the help! that given me a nice set-up something to look at, just need to poach the help of a friend to fit it :D

You could do it cheaper using fli, edge, etc. But I don't reckon it'll sound as good or last as long.

Or buy what bowdie is selling.
P88 HU is the best HU you can buy for under £500. I had one and regret selling it. Only sold It as desperate for money.
That price is a steal.
