I got caught 41 in a 30.

60 quid fine plus three points. No offer of driver training as it was more than 10mph over the speed limit.

Probably 3 points and £60, speed awarness courses seem to vary from area to area. I our region you only get offered it upto 39 in a 30 !

Surely the faster you're going, the more likely it is you need the driver course, so wonder why they only offer it if you're not speeding so much?

No, it's aimed at people doing just over the limit, where people are not paying much attention to the speedometer. If you're doing too much over the speed limit you'd be aware of it and speeding intentionally.

It depends entirely where you're based in the country and what criteria they have devised for their courses. In Suffolk 10%+9 mph will allow you do a course, so if you're lucky, you'll have been caught in one of the areas that has similar limits. 42mph is at the limit, but here you'd be accepted. No points, but the course is generally more expensive than the fine of £60, sometimes almost double.

HTH.

I did a drivers awareness course a week or so ago. I got pulled doing 63.97mph on a dual carriageway that recently changed from 60mph to 50mph. The copper said the limit for the drivers awareness course was 14mph over so I was 0.03 under it so got offered the course. Cost me £100 but no points on my licence. It is the most boring 3 hours of your life tho. They just go on about concentrating and driver awareness funnily enough.

As said tho it varies across the country.

Will be an sp30? I got 6points on this code and put my insurance up by £1. So taking the fine and points may be cheaper?

Ahh, but what did you learn, Alan?

But risk management-wise you'd be a fool not to take the course, because if you get stopped for speeding in the next three years your license is going to stack up and so will your insurance and chance of getting banned.  With the speed awareness course there's nothing on your license, just a three year mark against you in the system to indicate you've done a course and can't do another for three years.

Unless you know you're not going to be speeding for three years after the initial incident, of course....

I feel for you, that bus is useless, making you get on a bus is a speed awareness course itself, not the other bit at the center.

Ideal

I got caught doing 49 in a 30. What took the piss was it was a 50mph last time I drove down it... completely missed the single small sign on the duel carrageway that told me it was a 30 then 100yards there was a red light/speed camera
