Got a letter today to say I'm being prosecuted for doing 38mph in a 30mph zone, didn't know I'd been flashed or that I was doing that much over the limit, certainly didn't feel like it but the rozzers say they have camera/video evidence.
My question is do I accept the fine and 3 points or do the Speed Awarenss Course? which costs £80, some advice would be appreciated.
Fecked off with myself, never been done in 26 years of driving :angry:

Bloody car takes off like a bat out of hell, little touch on the accelerator and you're done for. Actually wasn't aware I was speeding. :embarassed:

£20 extra to avoid points sounds like a bargain - I assume you don't get an SP30 on your licence so don't have to declare anything to your insurace company next time you renew?

As far as I am aware there is nothing on the licence to indicate a speeding prosecution. I guess £80 is cheap to keep a clean licence.

Correct re no points and nothing to declare.
The course can be quite hard hitting with strong emphasis on "speed kills" so it's only £20 more but will/should have quite an impact on all those that attend.
I know what you mean re it being easy to speed up v quickly. Nice problem to have but you gotta be so careful.

Take the SAC, I did one last year. Amazing how many different types of people of attend, not just your stereo typical speed freaks (although there were some who I think didn't get anything out of the course).

Thanks for all your replies, I shall do the course and hopefully it will serve to teach me a lesson in that speed is not the be all and end all.

Bad luck Amanda. It's not just the GTI though as all modern cars are so well insulated from the outside world that it's hard to judge what speed you are going sometimes.
I rattle around town in a 14 year old SEAT and you're never in any doubt about how fast you're going in that thing!

A mate and his wife have done this course so definitely go for it.
He did say to bear in mind, however, you have to be "actively engaged" in the course and "contribute to it". If you just sit there time watching they'll fail you and give you the points anyway.

I went on the course about 6weeks ago.
Changed my attitude towards speeding..
Quiet an eye opener and a very good refresher, since you passed 26 years ago.
Unless you've recently read the highway code, you will find this course very useful.

My GTI also cost me three points last year. I had no points for more than 10 years! The GTI is just too quiet for her performance!
I got no points from my other cars--Fazza and Herbie!
If that policeman offered me a choice, I will definitely go for the driving course! Those three points cost me three figures increase for my three insurance policies!!!! :angry:

Bad luck on the 'virtual' collar being felt!
My wife did the course a year or so ago, as already stated, you must pay attention.
One more thing, you do the course in whatever county you we're caught in, so if you were on holiday in Cornwall and they got ya, another trip down south west is on the cards!
Another One more thing, I think you only get offered the course once in a three year period, so get caught again and its a dirty licence for three years from the date of the offence... not the date of points going on the licence. (correct me if I'm wrong!)

I would be asking where this happened and when and also for the video/picture evidence? Amanda how do you know it was you? how do you know your car isn't going round somewhere else on cloned plates?
Its happened to me when I had my Impreza and I sent the NIP back asking for the evidence never got a reply back???? MMMM that was 8 years ago and i'm still waiting :grin:

It was in Paignton last week and I was in Paignton at that time, I remember now seeing a slight flash in my wing mirror which I thought was sunlight - I know now it must have been the fecking speed camera. :grin:

And you're wasting your time doing girly boy racer stuff down in Paignton as the whole place is populated with dead people.......Torquay sea front is more the boy racer haven, dodging the northen drug addict 'visitors' who've been there since the 1980's Costa Del Dole era. Not that I have a low opinion of Torbay or anything........ :smiley:

As you come into Paignton from the roundabout with the big flower arrangement saying "English Riviera" there is a big juction with traffic heading down towards Paignton Zoo, Totnes back towards Newton abbot and on to Brixham, Kingswear etc, that juction is Tweenaways and they've been doing road works at it since winter. It's a bloody nightmare to get through, I sat for 40 minutes one day.
However I wont bear a grudge as I do like the area mostly, and the weather is better than ours in North Yorkshire.
