Hi all, I'm considering getting a 125 motorbike, prob aprilia rs125. I kno a couple of people on here had them, so any advise would be appreciated, spesh trying to see if it would be cheaper to run than my car, how much does it cost to fill the tank? And how many miles would you get for that? Cheers darren

Them Cagiva things were pretty quick for 125's. 7 gears didnt they?
However small the engine, i wouldnt ride a motorbike it shorts you nutter lol
-
Wife get`s about 60 miles for about four and half quid of petrol a month.
That`s on a 50cc scooter..
-
thats not bad, i think the 125's are about double thouse figures, £10 to fill up (poss lil bit more due to rise in fuel costs) and about 100 miles ish to a tank
-
two stroke race reps area high maintenance bike lots of fun when you rev the nuts off it but not good around town
need to use high quality two stroke oil and be brought up to temp before using
it will need a top end re-build every 8-10000 miles or so
if you can live with the wrist and back ache go for it they are amazing
-
i ran an rs125 for a year a couple of years ago (when fuel was cheaper) and was spending about 20-30 quid a week plus regular maintence to stop it blowing up. great fun bikes but if you want a comuter then you have to get a four stroke, either a yzf r125 or a cbr 125
-
yep the 2stroke engines are high maintenace but awesome fun
-
Had a CBF125 for the last year was getting about 300 miles out of a tank, cost about £13 to fill.
Replaced it with a Hornet 600  not as many miles but much more fun
-
Ok not on the same level, but bought a 50cc scoot as a commuter last year. Used it for the summer and was fun for a while, but soon got bored of it, and as the winter was so bad it was left to rot under a cover in the garden until last week when I sold it. May be different with a quicker bike but the rules still apply whereas you will hardly ever use it in winter anyway. Far too cold and wet, and much easier to jump in a car where you can stick the heater on and listen to Chris Moyles on the way to work, rather than spending ten minutes getting your leathers or rainproofs on and freezing your ass off! Did halve the time it took me to get to and from work though as you can just zip up the bus lanes whilst everyone else is stuck at the lights!
-
I got one of these bad boys, but I can't be bothered to ride it at the moment, just taking some time to chill now.

How many miles were you doing? Would love a yzf r125 can't afford one though

hard to say with commute and riding for fun but my commute was only about 10 mile round trip.

2strokes are effing brilliant when you get a proper one. Suzuki RGV250 best bike ive ever owned
Practically a road racer. Yeah and never wear shorts on a bike you berk!
-
I had a DNA2K as a college commuter. Nothing exciting, but reliable and good on fuel.
For a 125 I'd recommend going for a super moto like a senda, you'll have more fun taking a slow bike off road than putting a slow bike on the road... But that's just me.
-
Was gonna say if it's a run around type 125 you're after a supermoto style will be more fun. And you could run a cr125 as it. Absolute nutter machines.
-
Yea, I was half thinking of a super moto style bike, looked at a couple of dt125s now got to have a think and see if its a viable solution to my problems
-
i had a rs125 one of the best 125s i ever rode handles like a dream and goes wen you need it get a de restricted one with the powervalve lol mine use to top at 130 sscreaming it head off but good fun lol
