Title: A refreshing attitude from a car manufacturer !
Post by: toledo on 09 July 2011, 12:48
While researching Mercedes-Benz in preparation for a job interview on monday i came across this and thought how nice it must be to have the help and back-up from a company who are obviously proud of their history and keen to assist & encourage owners to maintain and renovate their older models , contrasts to the typical attitude given like the VW dealer near me who when asked which calipers might graft onto the rear of my rado stated that cars cannot / should not be maintained like that and cars over a certain age should be scrapped.

Quote: The Mercedes-Benz Classic Center is the official Mercedes-Benz department for Mercedes-Benz classic car owners and enthusiasts. It was first opened on May 18, 1993 in Fellbach, just outside of Stuttgart. A second location was opened in June 2006 in Irvine, California.
Overview
The Classic Center provides genuine parts, repairs, restorations, and information for and sales of historic Mercedes-Benz vehicles that are at least 15 years out of production. It helps Classic Mercedes-Benz car owners to obtain information and documentation on their vehicle (upon proof of ownership) and also offers consulting and technical appraisals for their vehicles.

That's good. :afro:

I think German dealers for VW are far more accommodating than in the UK though.  UK suits just want sales.

You're talking to the wrong foot soldier in VW.  Here's their take on the 'classic parts' situation:

Which you can order through any UK dealer, provided you can find someone who's aware of the programme.

I do not think you were spun the official line from whatever numpty you spoke to in the VW dealership.

Would you get that from a vauxhall dealer?, i think not.
A friend of mine had a bit of money left to him and decided to buy his wife and himself some decent wheels and seeing as he likes vauxhall went in to the local dealer, saw him later that day and he said he would never darken their door again as he felt like he was trespassing so he went to a hyundai dealer and was treated like a king.

Email'd these regarding some parts earlier in the week. The person on the other end couldn't have been more helpful. Found the parts and delivery was amazingly only €7. Not bad for parts measuring roughly 1mtr x 1/2mtr
