Post by: darren1.8t on 09 July 2011, 07:09
hi guys i have a funny noise coming from my pass side wheel??? just looked at it and the tyre has gone bald on the inside? the noise is very weird sounds like a rubbing/knocking noise? im running 225/40/18 its only started to do it for about 3 month lol i looked and the wheel/tyre are only just away from the round adjuster on the coilover ??? it seems a bit close to me? the drivers side is fine!! any idea? could the coilover be shagged??? cheers

maybe you need 5mm spacers, maybe you need your tracking sorted.

Mine had less than a rizla packet width with no spacers which was fine until my tyre went flat and the adjustment ring ripped the sidewall apart. As long as you have a gap, it should never change. What tyres/wheels you running?

Did you replace the top mounts? Is the coilover body still in the hub properly? And is it all the way in?

If really close run a thin spacer also check and see if you have any play in the wheel bearing.

cheers wayne im running 10mil spacers on both sides !its weird as the drivers side has more of a gap than the passenger side? im gonna do a rear wheel bearing today and have another look!! im still thinking that the coilover is shot?

could your wheel be buckled at all? Also, its not just the tyre size that matters but the particular wheels offset and the coilover setup that determines that gap. raising it a smidge may solve your issue. May also be worth getting someone decent to do a wheel alignment on it?

read on here the other day that the nut which holds the shocker in the coilover can come loose causing a knocking noise..mite b worth taking it apart and checking it. re-fix it on with sum loctite.
