Title: help, damsel in distress (and stressed!)
Post by: vwchloe on 07 July 2011, 18:02
hey guys, wondered if you can give me some advice on the mk4.

its a 1.4 16v and recently its been running like a pig, it was so noisey and kept stalling on me. After inspection it appeared it was the front downpipe had gone.

Today i has been replaced today which has sorted out everything fine and its very quiet, back to its normal running self.

However the idle seems out and the first time i start the car it simply cuts out. The only way to get it to run is by giving it a slight rev. At traffic lights or low gears it will just simply cut out.

Has anyone got any ideas on what to do? I've been looking up stuff this afternoon about the maf sensor and throttle body? maybe some way of resetting the ecu? any advice guys would be much appreciated. The only other work i've done on it recently is a new gearbox. hope someone might have some advice or had a similar problem.

Many Thanks Chloe

Clean your throttle body or get your other half to do it if you dont want to snap any nails, theres a guide on here in 'Maintenance' section at the top of this section.

If not take negative wire off battery and leave it overnight, should help then it will re-learn where it should be over next 500 miles or so.

Bang tidy.

the 1.4 engine really suffers from dirty throttle body problems, moreso than the GTIs for some reason.
need to plug diagnostics in really it could be a number of things.
