Title: 25th Anniversary 1.8T - Reflex Silver
Post by: BarryMKIV on 07 July 2011, 16:12
Hi All. Brand new to these pages, so apologies if I've posted in the wrong section. Anyway, on with my car.

Full Anniversary spec including: Black Recaros with red stitching, black seatbelts with red detail, perferated leather steering wheel with red stitching, black A B C pillars and roof lining, brushed aluminium surrounds on dash, aluminium peddles Climatronic, Anniversary sports clocks, traction control and 6disc front load multi changer.

One of only 1800 ever made, this one coming in at No. 441

Modifications are for reliability and performance:
Full non-resonated Milltek exhaust system with high flow race cat, Milltek diverter valve and Green 'panel' performance filter. No rolling road with the upgrades but produced 185BHP on a RR before the Modifications, Coilovers, 10mm H&R Hubcentric spacers up front, 15mm H&R Hubcentric spacers on the rear, and 4 fresh 225/40/18 Vredestein Sessantas to keep it on the road.

The car hasn't been remapped, so I still have that to look forward to further down the line when I get bored of the power.

I ordered 20th Anniversary GTI badges. The front one required some modification

First things first, off with the grill

Silver GTI stripped off, and Red GTI impacted and ready to stick to the original GTI mount. The mount the red GTI badge came with isn't worth sh!te, so I thought this would be the best way to do it.

20th Anniversary shtuck and ready to go!

And mounted to the grill. 20 minutes well spent I think  ;)

I have the red GTI for the rear, but after I mounted the rabbit, I decided to leave the original GTI

And that. . .is that

This is just a quick picture I found of it on another forum, and gave it a quick bit of photoshop treatment. It ran a very healthy 185BHP before modifications.  :smug:

I also ran without a front plate for approx 43 minutes before attracting attention from the Garda. So I put it back on to save myself the hassle. I quite liked the look and had considered a US spec front. Sorry for the poor picture, I only had a calculator to hand.

And then one final bum shot for now with it's poverty spec lights. Plently of plans for this over the next while, mostly underneath so it will be kept looking like an Anniversary should.

Comments and Suggestions Welcome.

Cheers Toby!

I replaced all the bushes a few weeks back. We put TT/S3 bushes in the rear, they really made a huge difference over the standard item. I've a set of US Spec Rear lights to put on, and then it's time for a wheel refurb, as the current wheels are suffering from lacquer peel. I want to take the front down another few mm too, and there's a slight bit of reverse rake going on at the moment. Front coils are currently seized  :embarassed:

Cheers dude! It's only my second car, came from a 1.6 Golf, it was a serious jump in power. I had always wanted an Anniversary, I'm delighted I held out for one! Took a while to find a clean one, but all my homework paid off. Pic of my old 1.6 because everybody loves pictures right?  It sat so much better than the Anni. Really need to sort it out!

Is your MK3 an Anniversary Dom? I'd seriously love a MK3. Awful disgusting hankering for a VR6. Charged of course

Off topic, but can you multi quote on the forum? I dont want to be annoying people and clogging up threads.

Cheers dude, definitely the best colour

No, not yet, they're still in the original Anniversary finish, three of the wheels are holding up very well, one, not so well. I patched it up the best I could a couple of weeks back and you can hardly notice the peel. The plan is to ship them off to Aerocoat in the next few weeks.

aerocoat? where are they based?

do they re-furb them back to standard.

Post by: BarryMKIV on 13 July 2011, 15:16
They do indeed Harry. Here's a couple of pictures of an RC with the Aeromax finish. The finish is amazing, and basically the original Anniversary RC finish.

They're based in Norfolk and hold the licence for the Aeromax finish. There's an Anniversary owner on a local VW forum that I'm on, that just had his wheels redone, the finish is nothing short of amazing. If you're looking to get yours done, I'd definitely get in contact. You'll find their contact information here. (http://"http://www.aerocoat.net/contactus.htm")

For me to ship them to Aerocoat from Dublin, have the work done, and for them to send them back to me, it's going to cost me just under €400.00.

Sorted the reverse rake on this today, will hopefully get some pics over the weekend. Much happier with how it's sitting now. Front coils were seized, but some impressive vocab, some penetrative oil, a lump hammer and a big screwdriver we had ourselves a porno some free coils!

Nice one, I always have a little worry about this, best thing on them long term to keep them free is chain wax for motorbikes.

Decided to get rid of my TA sh!tbrix coilovers as I couldnt take the crash crash bang bang any longer. So I replaced them with a set of these lads.

Weitec Hicon GTs. As soon as I sat into the car I could feel the difference. The car feels so much more planted at speed, and no more feeling like you're about to roll the car in the corners.

I'm just waiting for them to settle at the moment, so the car is all over the place height wise. I've only done about 100 miles so far, so once they're settled I'll sort out the ride height and get some new pictures up. So far, I'm very impressed with the Weitecs. I'd recommend them for anyone looking for a set of coilovers.

Title: Re: 25th Anniversary 1.8T - Reflex Silver
Post by: BarryMKIV on 12 December 2011, 14:21
I paid just over €600.00, so about £500.00. Well worth the money though. I've had my fair share of budget coilovers, there's just no comparison between the Weitecs and budgets.

They're settled now, really comfortable coilover, and well able for the twisties too

Havent updated this in a while. Took a few pics with one of the lads a while back while we had some sun.

The wheels are over with Pureklas at the moment being refurbished. They're just about ready so hopefully get them shipped back across to me tomorrow. I'm currently sitting on 16" beetle sport wheels  Coilovers have been wound down another few mil since the above and below pics, as I was never happy with how it sat. I'll update the pictures when I get the car back together.

I also fitted and wired up some Bora vents. They really improved the interior IMO.

I could only get hold of two genuine VW centre caps to have for when my wheels come back, so rather than put two corroded ones back on, I bought two domed stickers from ebay and stuck them on the old caps. They dont look too bad to be honest, and they'll do until I can get my hands on two more genuine ones.

Interior lights, leccy windows and my alarm had a spasm yesterday. Traced it back to this little bundle of joy. Half hour fix and everything was back working.

Also fitted my GTI glass bung from Gecleant yesterday. Tidy's up the rear a bit.

Also fitted 20mm H&R Hubcentric spacers to the rear, but I'm changing them for 25mm on Monday as they're not quite big enough.

Fairly sure that's it for now, I'll get a few more pics when I get the wheels home.

Edit: Obviously picked up a set of US rear lights as well, forgot about that :D

And all packed into the S3 and sent up for tires! Hopefully have them on the car tomorrow

The centre caps came out like new. I'll grab a pick and throw it up.

I completely forgot I had a thread for this on here. I was getting too much rubbing on the rear with the 25mm spacers and 40 profile tires, so I went back to 20mm. To be honest I'm happy enough with the 20mm's. I got tired of wiping tire off the front of my arches, and I didn't want to burn them either.

As for the Weitecs, they seem to be getting better over time, I really cant fault them. They're not crashy or bouncy, the ride is really nice for a coilover. There's really no comparing these to the TA sh!tbrix that I took out, they're in a completely different league altogether. Personally, I think it's worth your while saving a bit and buying the best coilover you can afford. My mate has KW V1s on his S3, and I honestly notice no difference between the way the two cars ride.

Few recent pics to throw in. . .

Yeah i think im going to splash out on some to be fair ! Hows the rear set up is that with the cups and adjusters or just cups .... Also did you have to cut the bumpstops at all with the W's ? Sorry about all the qs but 400+ is alot of money just to spend at will  do you get any tyre rub with your set up as i have super sevens which are awaiting tyres and didnt know whether to get 225 or 215 there the exact same spec as annis 7.5j et 32 i also have the same size spacers as you so would be good to know

No worries at all. Fire ahead with any questions you have.

I haven't modified the coilovers at all. There was no need, and there's still a good bit more in them if I want to go lower. The only time I've experienced any rubbing with this setup, was when I had 4 lads with luggage in the car, and even at that, the rubbing was very very slight.

Nope. There's still a bit left of them. I'll take a pic to show you how much. I got mine here in Ireland, but when I was looking I think it may have been DPM Performance that was one of the cheapest. I cant quite remember. I'm sure if you rang Damien he'd look after you.

Yea I'll check that for you too. Went to get a pic without realizing it's pitch black out. I'll get them for you tomorrow.

The Weitecs go lower than 50mm. They have to state 50mm in their specs for TUV approval.

Arch lip to ground is 25" all around, so a bit more than your 61cm. There's about a half an inch adjustment still in the rear.

Everything on the coilovers are as they came from Weitec, they haven't been modified in anyway.

I'm not 100%, but I'm fairly they have the tab to allow for the .:R32 ARB. I think there's just the one bumpstop up front.

Nothing to report really. My new Forge TIP is being fitted tomorrow, I tried it myself and got fairly annoyed after not too long.

Gave the car a quick mop today, and gave the bay some much needed attention. Bird shat on it soon after. Body not the bay.

Getting her cleaned for DS dude?

I'm going to keep it wrapped up now until the 7th of April

Pity you wont have the car there dude, would have loved to get a look at it. Are you planning on getting it out over the summer at all?

Will see how it goes lol. Have a baby on the way and its kinda taking over plus I've a few health problems.
If the front bags would come it wouldn't take long to get the car back together. Pop over to the stand at DS and say hello.

Congratulations on the baby! And I hope your health problems aren't too severe  the car can definitely wait in that case, some things are far more important.

Definitely dude! I'm really looking forward to it, hopefully there's some decent weather on the day too!

Getting it welded tomorrow, and I have a few more small boring bits I'm getting done at the same time. Custom mapping next month
