Title: Wiper arm removal
Post by: JDM82 on 06 July 2011, 20:06
I know this has been covered before, I've read the post but I've tried everything guys and I just can not get it to budge

I've soaked the spindle in releasing fluid and WD40. I've tried in vain to rock the arm back and forth but there's zero movement

I've tapped the top of the spindle with a hammer to hopefully help release it but zero results

Any ideas?

If I was to take it to a garage, what type of garage would be best? ie body shop, mechanics etc etc

Just found a wiper arm remover, do they work? Also called a wiper arm puller.

That tool would probably work I guess. A cheaper alternative that works for me is to CAREFULLY(!!!) insert the blade of a screwdriver between the base of the arm and the nut securing the spindle and CAREFULLY(!!!) prise the arm loose. I repeat CAREFULLY because if you aren't careful you can slip and scratch paint.
This tip is followed at your discretion but how many times will you use the tool?

I agree. Thats why I'd rather not buy the tool but after spending a few hours on it I wouldn't mind parting with £20 for the tool if it does what it claims to do, remove it safely in seconds

I'll have another "play" with it and if still no joy I think its a puller  :undecided:

OK its £20 but what will it cost if I damage the spindle or paint work  :undecided:

Bought and used the wiper arm puller and Im glad I did. I messed about for hours the other night and all most snapped the wiper spindle a few times but with the puller it came straight off in seconds. Ok it cost me £20 but job done safely and without any damage
