my engine is being rebuilt and everything's been put on hold atm cause the engine builders can't source a crankshaft!
it's a pb engine code and if anyone knows where i can get one please let me know
-
Just go buy a complete engine out of a 2.0 motor and stick the bottom end from that in the car, with the PB head on it.
Or are you some sort of OEM goon?
-
my engine has been stripped and is ready to be rebuilt except the engine builders are having trouble sourcing a crank shaft for my current engine...
don't wanna start putting a 2.0L bottom end on it, the whole idea of the rebuild is so the engine is mint, why bother putting a second hand bottom end on it?
-
If it helps all mk1 and mk2 1.8 are the same.
-
Whats wrong with original crank ?
-
well one of the crankshaft bearings came loose and seized the engine, so the crankshaft isn't in a salvageable condition :(

Just get one from a donor and have it re-machined/polished etc???
-
Get a 2.0 bottom end for 50quid and get that rebuilt!! Or find a sub 100k 2.0 lump and chuck that in-it'll be fine...

Ebay.

Or buy a complete engine and pull the crank out of that. I do know a friend who has a spare KR lump laying around that should be ok for the job too but I dont know the condition of the crank nor how much he would want for it or for postage.

If you go for a balanced crank make sure it gets balanced with the flywheel and pulley attached on either end before install.
-
cheers guys
it's becoming a p*ss take now, been without the car for 5 weeks now and i was told it would be about 2 weeks, then i called the garage and asked if i'd have it back by the end of the week and they said it'd be another 2 - 3 weeks, didn't keep me informed or anything!
then they called me friday to say the engine builders were having trouble sourcing a crankshaft and said they'd get back to me monday once they'd spoken to the engine builders again... called them yesterday and he hadn't spoken to the engine builders...
really annoying me now, it's ridiculous, it's almost as if they think i can just survive without a car indefinitely
-
could have done it yourself by now.
-
exactly mate! apparently they've sourced everything now, pistons should be delivered by monday at the latest, and they'll get it back to me by next weekend at the latest
amazing what happens when you tell people a few things

Well lesson is (what I would do).. Source everything yourself, then give it to them to do it. I know that sourcing parts can be pain but at least your car won't be off the road during the process.

one of the crank shaft bearings came loose and seized the engine, so the engine was dead aha
so it had to come off the road...

oh yeah, well not when in that situation then.

There you go! :afro:
-
sorted now thanks guys, should have it back by friday of next week :)
everything's been replaced new and been bored out so hopefully she should go nicely :P
-
^ Just dont expect massive gains tho, it'll just be close to standard BHP now :afro:
-
should be better than standard bhp, it's been bored out to 1.9L and every internal part has been replaced with all genuine parts shipped in from germany, plus picked up a full stainless system less than 6 months old and gonna get a stainless manifold so it'll hopefully be pushing 135bhp, then i intend to cam it in the next few months
-
135 bhp with the cam, not likely without

135 bhp with the cam, not likely without
Agreed. That's what mine was capable of when new and that also required larger ports, valves, cam etc...

guess that means i'll just have to make sure i get a cam then! :D

A mate had a 2.0 8v with cam, big port head, full rebuild including lightening + balancing, and twin weber 40's, that made 150bhp, and in the mk1 it was rapid and very revvy. He used to switch off engine @ speed, pump throttle and re start engine for the loudest bang ever, forget a normal backfire. Used to sound like the backbox was gonna blow apart at the seams!! Was the best thing for sh!tting people up, followed by the roar of the carbs, did it for years and never missed a beat.
